  • Developing an effective and equitable support system for student well-being is the foundation for empowering our learners. Our district Social Emotional Learning Committee met to review data, best practices, and feedback from students and staff to help bring the district to the next level. With representatives from each school and learning area, they met today to identify priority areas for improvement. This process will continue through next year, resulting in new school-based projects and an enriched curriculum.

  • Northbrook 28 Children’s Choir Director and Greenbriar School Music Teacher Jeremy Bartunek is an inspiration to more than his young performers. He recently shared his passion and vision for children’s choir at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Directors Association National Children's Choir Conductors Retreat in Nashville, TN. @ACDA He showcased our students throughout his presentation, "This Music. This Time. These Kids," for about 100 directors from around the country. In addition to details all conductors are interested to hear about the planning and rehearsal process, Mr. Bartunek also discussed how the integration of community, culture, and family can lead to a sense of belonging in a public school children's choir. “I received a lot of positive feedback regarding how impressive the kids are, what we do, the commitment, and more,” Bartunek said. He also has something to share with his students about the experience. A composer of one of the songs that the choir performed in November, Melissa Keylock, attended his session. “She sat in the front row for my presentation and got to hear our kids sing her song. She loved it and said she was so impressed that they learned the piece so quickly,” Mr. Bartunek said. #28Empowers
