Have you ever written something on social media and regretted it right after you hit post? When you’re creating or responding to a social media post, you can’t rely on body language, tone, and word inflections to help properly deliver your message. It’s important to keep that in mind and choose your words carefully so that you don’t have those regrets. Dr. Nadia Mendiola from Northern Light Acadia recently stopped by WABI TV5 to discuss how to build healthy connections on social media, sharing tons of information you can use when you’re on social media. We are more than a hospital; we are a hub for behavioral and mental health services and expertise serving all of Maine.
About us
The care we provide is rooted in compassion and respect. A 100-bed, acute care, short-stay psychiatric hospital, Acadia provides a full continuum of behavioral (mental) health services including inpatient and outpatient services for children, teens, and adults. We meet our patients where they are. Whether in our offices or virtually from the comfort of the their home through telehealth, Acadia Hospital strives to make patient access easy. Our outpatient services include individual, family, and group therapy; medication management; case management; intensive day treatment programs; electroconvulsive therapy; mood and memory care; an observation unit; and a robust substance use disorder treatment program that encompasses medicated assisted treatment. Acadia's services reach deep into our communities through many specialized programs including our Behavioral Health Home, Opioid Health Home, military veteran programming, Integrated Behavioral Health in primary care practices, and school-based clinician services. Beyond these programs, we're strong advocates for the advancement of behavioral health through our partnerships with the Yellow Tulip Project, our award-winning AcadiaCARES program, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and much more. We understand that hospitals must make investments in their communities, and we work tirelessly to support mental well-being efforts and foster resiliency. Acadia is a member of Northern Light Health, an integrated health delivery system in Maine. Its more than 12,000 team members support the system's 10 hospitals, home care and hospice, emergency transport network, population health company, and retail pharmacy.

Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 3, at 2 am. While gaining an extra hour of sleep may sound appealing, the shorter days can impact our mental health. If you struggle with depression or Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), you may notice increased symptoms. We encourage you to take extra care of yourself during this time. Here are some tips: • Maintain a regular sleep schedule and make your bedroom a calming space. • Get outside during daylight hours, especially when it's sunny. • Exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet. • Stay connected with friends and loved ones for support. • Consider light therapy or talk to your healthcare provider about other treatment options. Let's take care of ourselves and each other during this seasonal shift. #DaylightSavings #SeasonalAffectiveDisorder #NorthernLightHealth

Northern Light Health's WINS (Work In Northern Light Service) program recognizes employees who provide exceptional patient experiences. Recently, Bobbie Jo B., manager of Acadia’s Behavioral Health Home program, submitted a WINS to acknowledge two folks in her department, Andrew and Rowena, for their outstanding dedication and commitment to our patients. These often-untold stories happen almost daily inside the walls of Acadia. A sincere thank you to Andrew and Rowena – and all those who make up Team Acadia – for all you do for our patients and their families, each and every day.
