📦 The story of IKEA. 📦 ▶️ Have you ever wondered why their stores are the way they are--the store-warehouse combo we've come to know so well? ▶️ Do you assume it was the result of an innovative strategy involving target demographics, Venn diagrams, and competitive analysis that landed them here? Spoiler alert—it wasn’t. 👉 It was a series of unexpected events in which open minds and creative choices led IKEA to where they are today, with 482 IKEA stores operating in 63 countries, selling over $45.82 billion of IKEA goods each year. Adam Grant is right, "Extended reflection without action is a form of procrastination. Doing is a catalyst for thinking and learning." 🤺 You have new ideas. You have new insights--and there are things ruminating in your mind that are ripe for activation. We can help turn them from things you're thinking about into tangible ideas and opportunities to pursue (and help you shape a path to pursue them!) ⭐ To make it better, we’re currently offering *6 free spots* in our activation workshop! 👉 Complete the interest form: https://lnkd.in/gZ8Jq-fk , and we’ll select six people at random for a free spot. (If you’ve completed the form already, you’re eligible, and we’ll be in touch soon.)

This week on the Creative Collisions substack we feature Henry Lee. Henry Lee is an innovative interdisciplinary designer and researcher with a passion for creating human-centered experiences through a blend of research and design intelligence. 🔹 He is faculty at Parsons School of Design - The New School, a freelance interdisciplinary designer and researcher and was recently named a Tech and Public Policy Visiting Fellow at Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy. Henry shares his insights and thoughts on #design and #time: 👉 Historically, we've been able to easily determine what time period an object is from at a quick glance. In design terms, we can identify basic design trends, styles, decades, and even centuries based on when the object existed. 👉 👉 But what happens when objects or experiences are "timeless"? Endless digital advertisements and stroll by countless aisles of physical goods for sale. Many of the products are one-use, or quickly disposed of. Some are never used. What then? 👉 👉 👉More specifically, how might we avoid designing physical and digital objects that quickly disappear into the sea of time and fast-moving trends, and are able to anchor themselves for a longer period of time and within a deepened experience? ▶️ Read on in the 'stack: https://lnkd.in/gUSzzhUj

💡 Did you know you can create #Serendipity? It's the result of an intentional practice of being #open to possibility, seeking diverse #inputs, uncovering #triggers, making new #connections, and #acting on those new connections to create new #value. Unlike brainstorming or other #designthinking methodologies, pursuing serendipity allows for the inclusion of unexpected occurrences, events, or insights. There is space for unknown, unknowns, and nonconsensus points of view. 👉 Maintaining your source for new and diverse inputs, uncovering triggers, and making new connections requires continuous effort. Membership makes it easier by providing the following inputs and opportunities- threads to pull on and ways to engage. #Praxis means a #theory in #practice. Make serendipity something you practice. 💥 Friday’s summit was an inspiring morning of new insights, ideas, and connections. 👉 NOW, LET’S ACTIVATE THEM! When we encounter a trigger-rich environment or experience, we often skip reviewing and exploring the ideas and insights that occurred to us in the moment: 〰️ Take 10 minutes to review your notes from the summit: 〰️ What else do they make you think of? 〰️ What is something new or unexpected you learned or thought of on Friday? 〰️ Does anything connect with what you’re currently working on? 〰️ What is something worth sharing, and with whom? 👉 Write down your thoughts and add them to any notes you took before or during the summit. #innovation #serendipity #leadership #strategy #design #designthinking #summit #virtualsummit #northomegroup #creativecollisions
