I had the great privilege to hear Arthur Brooks, PhD professor at Harvard Business School, acclaimed public speaker, and best-selling author speak live this morning on leadership and happiness. Thank you for hosting, North Point Community Church! Based on 25+ years of researching happiness, Arthur (he’s fabulously brilliant and incredibly humble making you feel like it’s ok to call him by his first name!🤣) shared that the secret to happiness is “a desire to make progress” in life. Wherever you are in life’s journey, happiness requires self-study and effort.  I just finished his latest book “Build the Life You Want – the Art and Science of Getting Happier” he co-authored with Oprah Winfrey (y’all know she’s my celebrity hero!😍). I loved the book so much I couldn't miss today’s talk. Self-improvement guidance coupled with science and data to back it up…I’m all in! Are you in your ‘second half’ of life too???  Arthur focused on 4 shifts required at our age to pursue contentment and happiness: 1.    Shift from innovating/building/creating to teaching and sharing. 2.    Shift from accumulating more to getting good at subtracting things/wants from your life and appreciating what you have. 3.    Shift from wanting to be special and individualistic to seeking deep connection with family, friends, community. 4.    Shift from busyness and distraction to choosing to build the life you want. His talk today was on his book From Strength to Strength (which I’ll be picking up stat).  We all want to be happy. I’ll leave you with his closing question to ponder yourself: “Why do you do what you do?” Did you attend today's talk too?
