The Sandstone School has been a fixture in the Absarokee and Stillwater County communities since 1910. It is one of Montana’s earliest historic properties. A group of dedicated community members are working tirelessly to preserve the historic school building to continue its useful life as a daycare facility. As work to preserve the building continues, — which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places —the Save the Sandstone Community group is continuing their fundraising campaign. We're proud to donate $1,000 to help boost their fundraising efforts. ❤️ “The Sandstone Building is a physical representation of the importance of rural education opportunities,” said Shari DeSaveur, member of the Save the Sandstone Community group. “We are working to preserve this building with the help of partners like NorthWestern Energy to protect its historical significance and to restore the daycare facility that operated in the building until 2019.” The continuous fundraising campaign aims to raise funds for repairs and will be used as matching dollars for larger grant applications. “We’re proud to support the Sandstone Building restoration efforts by providing gap-filling funding needed to continue current work on the roof repairs,” said Lisa Perry, NorthWestern Energy Community Relations Manager. Iris the Osprey is probably the world’s oldest known osprey, being about 28 years old. Bird watchers from around the world enjoy watching Iris through a nest cam set up near her nest. Back in 2007, Iris had a nest on a nearby power pole, a common yet dangerous habit for ospreys. As a part of our Avian Protection Plan, NorthWestern Energy built a new nest platform nearby in 2007, and Iris has nested on it since.❤️ Although Iris and her family will likely be headed south soon, highlights from the season can be viewed at 🔗https://lnkd.in/gHNyvJFY Photo credit: Erick Greene, (Montana Osprey Team, Missoula College and University of Montana)

Each year, NorthWestern Energy welcomes a newgroup of interns for the summer. This summer saw the largest number of interns since the program relaunch in 2015. We were honored to have 23 interns join our team and have the unique opportunity to learn the behind‑the‑scenes of working in the utility industry. 🙌 Our interns work in various departments throughout the company, including law, communications, technology, and various branches of engineering. Each intern works on at least one meaningful project during the summer. Some projects this year included studying the safety of confined spaces at our hydro facilities, updating emergency response plans, and designing a battery rack at a hydro facility. 👏 Learn more about our 2024 interns at https://lnkd.in/gDjJ8BBx. We're proud to give back to our communities! We donated $5,000 to Missoula Parks and Recreation, in honor of baskets made by participants at our pop-a-shot station during Missoula Under Construction Aug. 17 at Fort Missoula Regional Park. The donation will support Missoula Parks and Recreation in its vital mission to manage 550 acres of parkland, 22 miles of trails, and thousands of city trees. The donation will support tree planting to replace those lost in the severe windstorm on July 24 and bolster tree education programs. “We are thrilled to contribute to the beautification of Missoula through tree planting, which will provide shade and enhance recreational spaces,” said NorthWestern Energy Community Relations Manager Todd Rahr. “This donation also supports local businesses by creating job opportunities, benefiting the community's economy.” In addition, NorthWestern Energy is collaborating with Missoula Parks and Recreation on the Downtown Parks & Trails Implementation Team. This partnership includes a mural project on the downtown substation, celebrating local heritage through indigenous art, as endorsed by the Missoula City Council. The new $10 million substation in Caras Park will feature prominent public art, aligning with both the Downtown Master Plan and the North Riverside Parks and Trails Plan’s vision for significant art installations in the downtown district.
