OPAL Build is proud to announce our new name, NotchSB ! Entering a new era of growth, building on our expertise in mass timber panelization, we are expanding our services as NotchSB to include advanced mass timber engineering and a fully integrated design-to-construction system. By streamlining the design-to-build process and optimizing the mass timber supply chain, we are paving the way for more affordable and accessible decarbonized housing solutions, addressing critical housing shortages in a rapidly evolving world. Why NotchSB? The name NotchSB symbolizes precision and quality. It reflects our company’s commitment to a systems built approach to mass timber construction that blends traditional woodworking techniques with cutting-edge technology. By combining advanced computer modeling with CNC cutting, NotchSB creates detailed, pre-cut panels that enable fast, efficient assembly, reducing labor costs and construction timelines. The “SB” in NotchSB stands for Systems Built or Sustainable Buildings, highlighting the our mission to deliver the next generation of streamlined, sustainable housing solutions. Expanding Capabilities NotchSB offers a tailored approach to Mass Timber, expanding its services with an integrated design-to-construction building system, targeting the core drivers of inefficiency: design, procurement, and delivery. • OPAL Build is excited to be featured in the November 2024 issue of OFFSITE Builder Magazine! "[OPAL Build] uses a hybrid building system of panelized and modular components to build modern, energy-efficient homes made with cross laminated timber (CLT) and wood fiber insulation. 'The scope of work that we build offsite includes the CLT panels; the windows; the wood fiber insulation; the modular kitchens and bathrooms; and the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) pods,' say Matthew O'Malia, founder of OPAL Build, 'That represents, typically 60% of the project value, so we've been feeling a higher level of confidence about predictability on the cost side.'... O'Malia says the company is focused on replicability. 'CLT has some specific design criteria which, if you work within it, can be very cost competitive.' he says. 'But we have to be very clear with customers when CLT might not be the best choice for their particular design.'"
