Already equipped with certifications and real-world experience, Anthony has made the most of his time at #NOVA through the ALLCyber Club, Cloud Computing Club, and Year Up program. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity at The George Washington University while finishing his associate degree in cloud computing at NOVA. At the National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education (ATE) PI Conference in D.C., ATE project team members from Northern Virginia Community College were honored to accept a 2024 Outstanding ATE Evaluation of an ATE Project Award on behalf of Jen G. from Magnolia Consulting, LLC (who was unable to attend the conference). Joining NOVA's team was Lyssa Becho from EvaluATE, the evaluation hub for NSF's ATE program that recognizes and awards evaluation excellence. We nominated Jen and Magnolia for a comprehensive and incisive evaluation of one of our NSF grant awards (Expanding Regional Capacity for Training in Engineering Technology and Data Center Operations), which helped us improve grant outcomes, especially in the effectiveness of our summer bridge programs. With a background in electrical engineering and 13 years in the space industry, Kwabena followed his passion for computers into cybersecurity, teaching at NOVA and The George Washington University. He leads NOVA's #cybersecurity track, preparing students with hands-on skills and partnerships with tech giants like Amazon and Microsoft. Last week we had the honor of having Microsoft visit our Engineering Technology Career Scholars at the Northern Virginia Community College Fab Lab for engaging sessions of speed-mentoring! Microsoft brought 13 team members to help guide our scholars through what it takes to be a professional both at Microsoft and the tech world in general. 2 scholars at a time went to each station to learn from a different mentor, and it was an excellent opportunity for them to ask questions and gain valuable face-to-face interpersonal experience with accomplished #InDemandTech professionals. I'm excited to be speaking at the upcoming Emerging Trends & Policy Symposium as part of a fireside chat alongside Bridget Carper from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Zach Whitman from GSA. I'm looking forward to an engaging conversation around the ethical and economic impact of AI and to sharing my thoughts on the role of higher education in preparing the future workforce for this impact.
