Sometimes repetition is a key to success. I thought of that the other day when someone mentioned how often I say that we exist to grow each other at Ntiva, Inc. I’ve been very consistent with repeating this over and over in multiple mediums and venues. I always make sure to mention this in every all-hands meeting that we host, usually multiple times. Over the years a drinking game was invented for every time I said it during these meetings. Initially I was, shall say we say, slightly offended by this, but I’ve grown to appreciate it and here’s why. To be effective as a leader, you can’t be liked by everyone. I spent years and years trying to do that, and it just doesn’t work, nor is it effective leadership. Effective leadership is being consistent and respected. And I am certainly consistent in repeating this message and it has sunk in. People know this is what I believe in, as it’s what I constantly communicate. I’m literally known for this and that’s what makes it stick. People share with me how they have experienced this and, even better, how they have helped others grow in meaningful ways. So let the drinking games begin and let’s cheer to consistency and purpose! #Leadership #CompanyCulture #GrowthMindset #WeExistToGrowEachOther

"Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive." How often do you find yourself telling a little white lie? Do you feel that at times this is justified or that honesty is always the best policy? #honesty #whitelies #WeExistToGrowEachOther

I don’t know about your kids, but mine are heavily into virtual reality (VR) gaming with devices such as Oculus. While this is cool (hey, you know I’m a geek) and some of these games have benefits including physical activity or educational content – I really worry about the lack of in-real-life (IRL) social interaction. While VR can create astonishingly realistic environments, it can’t fully replicate the nuances of in-person human connection. And it’s not just VR - kids (and adults) have long been “virtually interacting” via email, texts, and social media – all of which we know when used in excess is associated with negative mental health. Social skills, such as reading body language, making eye contact, and understanding social cues are all learned through real-life interactions. These skills are super important in professional environments if you want to be successful, and, of course, personal relationships as well. This brings us to an interesting dilemma: Can we use VR to teach kids how to engage in real life? Or is that counterproductive and well, paradoxical? #VirtualReality #InRealLife #SocialSkills #DigitalAge #WeExistToGrowEachOther
