  • Let's talk about living our best, and longest, lives simply by eating a healthy diet!   The choices we make day to day affect our ability to age with grace. Now, don't think you have to change your life completely overnight but start to slowly implement healthy habits, and over time they will become second nature.   ✨How can you do that?✨   Start with improving your basic needs. Every person needs nutritious food, activity, and rest. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, moving your body in a way that you enjoy, and eating balanced meals.   Sometimes, when starting new habits it is helpful to find ways to make improving these basic needs even easier!   At Nutrition for Longevity, we provide two different meal plans:   1. The Longevity Diet Pick Your Own meal plan - a science-backed diet that is balanced in a way to promote the longest and healthiest life possible (it may give you a few extra healthy years!). 2. The KetoFLEX 12/3 Pick Your Own meal plan - part of the Bredesen Protocol, this diet is a plant-forward approach that ensures your brain is receiving the necessary nourishment for brain health.   📣 Check out our meal plans here: https://lnkd.in/g_RKp5TY

  • Too Much Sugar? Researchers found out that sugar negatively impacts the age of your cells ⬇️ Researchers at UCSF found that a healthy diet low in added sugar is linked to a younger biological age at the cellular level. The study showed that consuming antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrients, like what you would find in the Longevity Diet, positively affects the epigenetic clock, which estimates health and lifespan. Even small amounts of added sugar were associated with accelerated biological aging! This means it is key to focus on the nutrients and read the nutrition labels of the foods you consume. Are you in need of a low-sugar, healthy meal plan designed to support your healthspan or cognitive health? 🥗 Check out our meal plans here: https://lnkd.in/g_RKp5TY 📣 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gghJsdum

  • When it comes to longevity, you need to make sure you are providing the right nutrition to preserve our healthy bones 🦴⬇️ Experiencing bone loss is a natural part of aging, but eating a well-balanced diet can slow down the process. Here are several nutrients you need to prioritize to keep your bones healthy as you age: Calcium: If you don't get enough calcium from your diet, your body will pull the minerals from your bones. Dairy products are more widely known as being sources of calcium, but other calcium-rich foods include tofu, beans, leafy greens, sardines, bok choy, and plant-based milk. Luckily, many of our Longevity Diet meals contain tofu, beans, and/or dark, leafy greens. Vitamin D: Now, to absorb the calcium from your diet, you need to make sure you are getting enough vitamin D. While you can always get vitamin D from the sun, sometimes that is not always possible, so we need to make sure we are consuming vitamin D-rich foods. These include salmon, tuna, egg yolks, mushrooms, milk, and fortified plant-based milk and cereals. When choosing meals from our Pick Your Own plans, make sure to choose a few of our delicious salmon dishes! Protein: Protein is essential for replacing bone when it is lost, so make sure you are getting enough. The average adult should strive for around 0.36 grams of protein per pound of body weight, while older adults may need to increase the amount to 0.45 grams. That being said, always check with your doctor or Registered Dietitian to determine your appropriate protein needs. Protein sources include meat, Greek yogurt, eggs, tofu, lentils, and almonds. • 📢 Studies show that adhering to a healthy diet can influence a patient’s quality of life in their older years, which includes helping them stay mentally sharp for longer. ⬇️   GENERAL AGING   People who adhered to healthy dietary patterns in midlife, especially those rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and healthy fats, were significantly more likely to achieve healthy aging.   COGNITION   Another study's findings also provided new evidence suggesting that improvements to dietary patterns up to midlife may influence cognitive performance and help mitigate, or lessen, cognitive decline in later years.   Whether your goal is to support your longevity or cognitive health, we have the right meal plan for you! • A recent study found that individuals consuming diets with higher Glycemic Index (GI) and Glycemic Load (GL) were more likely to develop diabetes over time. These findings underscore the importance of dietary choices, suggesting that reducing the consumption of foods with high GI and GL could be beneficial in preventing diabetes. At Nutrition for Longevity, our mission is to live healthy as long as possible. This is why we have implemented a CDC-approved Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) that is facilitated by one of our Registered Dietitians, to help individuals develop healthy habits and prevent Type 2 Diabetes. • 🚨 Today marks Diabetes Alert Day, an annual reminder from the American Diabetes Association to prioritize our health. 🚨 Did you know that approximately 98 million American adults—more than 1 in 3—have prediabetes? Shockingly, over 80% of them aren't even aware of it. This is a serious condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but haven't yet reached the threshold for type 2 diabetes. Diabetes isn't just about managing blood sugar levels; it's a lifelong condition that impacts overall health. Complications can include chronic kidney disease, vision loss, and nerve damage. The good news? Type 2 diabetes is preventable. Simple lifestyle changes such as increasing physical activity, making healthier food choices, and shedding excess weight can significantly reduce the risk. But awareness is key. Today, on Diabetes Alert Day, take a moment to assess your health and talk to your healthcare provider. Remember, you're not alone in this journey. There are support systems and resources available to help manage diabetes. At Nutrition for Longevity, we're proud to offer home-delivered Diabetic-Friendly meals carefully curated by our dietitians and chef and one-on-one nutrition counseling. Delicious and nutritious, our meals and expert nutrition services make managing diabetes easier and tastier. Don't delay—start prioritizing your health today.
