Ad hoc Code Blue response teams are the norm at many hospitals today. This means that when a code is called, clinicians arrive from different parts of the hospital, with different skillsets and backgrounds, and come together in the moment to respond to one of medicine’s most intense emergencies. And while ad hoc Code Blue teams are certainly capable of performing at high levels, it can be challenging to execute an emergency response optimally with team members who don't know each other well. In our most recent blog (click below), we talk about 3 key strategies hospitals with ad hoc Code Blue response teams can use to optimize performance. #criticalcare #patientsafety #codeblue #ACLS

Therapeutic hypothermia has been a pillar of post-cardiac arrest care since it was initially recommended by the AHA and ILCOR in 2005. Although the ideal temperature target was debated over the years, overall support for mild induced hypothermia remained largely unchanged. That is until recently, when newer research led the European Union to shift its focus toward targeted normothermia instead. Check out our most recent blog article (linked in comments ⬇️⬇️), where we explore the history of targeted temperature management, the research that led to the changes in the EU, and our take on what it all means for hospitals in the US. #criticalcare #patientsafety #codeblue #ACLS

Mechanical CPR offers a wide array of benefits, from consistently high-quality compressions to reduced stress and burnout for clinicians. But it’s not without risk, including the potential for delays to lifesaving care while responders place the device. This month on the blog, we offer strategies hospitals can use when implementing mechanical CPR — before, during, and after the rollout — to mitigate this risk while maximizing the benefits. Nurses play a key role in both preventing and responding to cardiac arrest. Thanks to the close attention and care they give their patients, nurses are often the first to act when a patient shows signs of deterioration. And when prevention isn’t possible and a Code Blue is called, they serve any number of critical functions, ranging from managing the equipment to performing high-quality CPR. Given their skillset, experience, and proximity to the patient, it makes sense for hospitals to empower nurses to step up during an emergency and put these skills to use. In our most recent blog (link in comments ⬇️⬇️), we explore strategies hospitals can use to do just that.

The stakes and stress of a life-or-death Code Blue event are daunting for all responders — but perhaps none more so than a newly minted nurse participating in their first-ever Code Blue event. That’s the focus of the next installment in our Resuscitation Perspectives interview series, where we speak with a freshly licensed RN who just started her first nursing position. What does resuscitation training look like in nursing school, and how does she plan to bridge the gap between school and real-life, hands-on experience?
