Raleigh, North Carolina, holds a special place in my heart. Not only is it a home away from home, but it’s also where my journey as an adjunct professor at North Carolina State University (NCSU) continues. This week, I’m here with colleagues from NWU as part of our relentless pursuit of internationalisation – a key strategic priority for the university. As one of South Africa’s institutions offering a nuclear engineering programme, NWU cannot afford to stand still. We’re here to meet with leading experts and deepen our knowledge, ensuring that we contribute meaningfully to South Africa’s energy future. Our schedule is packed with meetings with some of the world’s most renowned nuclear engineering experts. The knowledge and insights we gain here will add value to NWU’s nuclear engineering programme, ensuring we remain at the cutting edge. South Africa needs this expertise to tackle our energy challenges, and NWU will be at the forefront of providing it. #MyNWUVC #MyNWU

We are driven by the belief that education can change lives. However, many of our students face significant financial barriers that prevent them from completing their studies. This is why we’ve launched #NWUGivingWeek, a dedicated campaign to raise funds for students with outstanding debt. As Vice-Chancellor, I am deeply committed to supporting our students, and my family and I have pledged R20,000 towards this important cause. Now, I am calling on the wider NWU community—staff, students, alumni, corporate partners, and all who share our passion for education—to join us in this effort. Every donation, large or small, will make a profound difference in a student’s life. Together, we can ensure that deserving students have the opportunity to complete their studies and contribute meaningfully to society. Please join me in making a difference. We are immensely proud to confer the degree of Philosophiae Doctor (Honoris Causa) on Monametsi Peter Chiepe, a visionary in agricultural sciences and a trailblazer in livestock value-chain transformation across Africa and the globe. Born in Botswana, Mr Chiepe's dedication to excellence has led him to build Champrimo Group, a vertically integrated agribusiness that empowers small-scale farmers and elevates Africa’s competitiveness in the global livestock sector. His commitment to innovation, ethical practices, and inclusive development models has uplifted countless communities, making a lasting impact on the continent. As an Earth Scientist, Social Entrepreneur, and a leader in regenerative agricultural practices, Mr Chiepe’s achievements are a beacon of hope for Africa’s future in sustainable agriculture. His remarkable contributions to breeding high-quality cattle, integrating indigenous breeds, and developing transformative business models have set a new standard for the agricultural industry. We are honoured to recognise Monametsi Peter Chiepe for his tireless efforts in positioning Africa as a key player in global markets and for his passion for empowering the next generation of farmers. Congratulations on this well-deserved honour! 🎉👏 #MyNWU #NWUGrads #NWUAlumni #HonoraryDoctorate #MonametsiPeterChiepe #ProudlyNWU #NWUGlobal

🌟 Reflecting on an Incredible Experience at the North-West University / Noordwes-Universiteit Student Leadership Summit 2024! 🌟 I recently had the privilege of attending the NWU Student Leadership Summit on the 26th and 27th of September at ANEW Resort Hunters Rest in Rustenburg. The theme, "Future Leaders: Embracing Change and Innovating Tomorrow" was a powerful reminder of the impact we, as student leaders, can have on shaping the future of higher education. From the inspiring keynote by Prof. Bismark Tyobeka, our Vice-Chancellor, to engaging in a thought-provoking panel discussion on current trends and challenges in leadership, this summit provided invaluable insights and learning experiences. Meeting and networking with fellow student leaders and industry experts was truly enriching. I am excited to take these lessons forward as I continue my journey in student governance, working towards a brighter, more innovative future for our university. #NWUSummit2024 #LeadershipReflections #StudentGovernance #FutureLeaders #HigherEducation #Innovation #Networking #Growth

It’s hard to believe it’s been 16 years since we formally began our community engagement journey at NWU. What started as small steps has become a powerful force for change across our African communities. From tackling education (SDG 4) to improving health (SDG 3), every initiative reflects our commitment to excellence and creating meaningful, sustainable impact. Our partnerships have taught us the true value of collaboration, and together, we’re discovering new frontiers of possibility. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this incredible journey! #DiscoverNewFrontiers #MyNWU #NWUExcellence #SDG #CommunityEngagement

Today, we have the honour of gathering with our remarkable student leaders for the 2024 NWU Student Leadership Summit. This summit is more than just an event – it’s an opportunity for reflection, growth, and the exploration of what it means to lead in a world marked by rapid technological, social, and economic changes. Leadership is not defined by titles or positions; it's about influence, purpose, and the ability to inspire others towards a common vision. At North-West University, we believe that true leadership is grounded in character, service, and a commitment to making a positive impact. As we navigate the complexities of today’s world – climate change, social justice, inequality – our role as leaders is critical. The future demands leaders who are empathetic, agile, inclusive, and courageous. This summit is designed to challenge our thinking, inspire fresh ideas, and equip our student leaders with the skills needed to shape a sustainable and inclusive future. At NWU, we recognise that higher education is not just about acquiring knowledge but about developing the whole person: character, values, and purpose. We are deeply committed to empowering our students to lead with integrity and to make meaningful contributions to society. To our student leaders: your leadership matters, your voice matters, and you are the architects of the world we will inhabit tomorrow. Let’s use this summit to engage deeply, reflect critically, and leave with a renewed sense of purpose to lead for the greater good. #GreatnessWithoutBoundries #MyNWU #NWUExcellence #NWUStudentLeadershipSummit #FutureLeaders #LifeAtNWU North-West University / Noordwes-Universiteit

It is an honour to represent North-West University / Noordwes-Universiteit alongside the South African delegation, led by Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, at the 68th International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference. This significant event brings together global leaders to discuss the peaceful uses of nuclear technology and its vital role in ensuring energy security. At the recent Nuclear Energy Summit hosted by the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, I had the privilege of moderating a panel on Future Technology Prospects and their Strategic Importance. We explored key issues such as the revival of the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor and the potential of small modular reactors (SMRs) in South Africa’s energy mix. The discussions centred around innovation, nuclear waste management, and the geopolitical risks associated with nuclear technology vendors. Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa's insights on nuclear energy’s role in transforming societies and combating climate change were especially resonant. As South Africa continues to navigate its energy future, we must not lag behind in embracing nuclear technology's transformative potential. Team South Africa Nuclear has been well-represented, and we are proud to contribute to these vital conversations on our energy future! 🇿🇦 #MyNWU #NWUExcellence #SustainableDevelopment #LifeAtNWU 📷 Necsa
