In this week's Workforce Wednesday we are highlighting our strong partnerships and collaboration with City agencies and community organizations who are collectively helping to build pipelines to career success and economic mobility for New Yorkers. Last Friday, Ismail Ocasio, NYC Talent's Executive Director of the Apprenticeship Accelerator, spoke at the Per Scholas graduation ceremony for the second cohort of software developers trained in the Bronx. Graduates of this innovative and free program get classroom and real world training from expert instructors, along with mentoring and job placement. These graduates will now be employed for one year at the consulting firm PeopleShores where they will provide IT support services for Accenture. And after a year, many will go on to become fulltime software developers at Accenture. Programs like this demonstrate the need to braid earning and learning together to position diverse New Yorkers for careers in high growth sectors. You can learn more by visiting perscholars.org. Yesterday, Grant Yanney joined colleagues from several agencies at the Edward Murrow High School in Brooklyn where they helped the City's youth register to vote. This event was part of a larger #CivicsWeek campaign that will have 200+ City employees visit all 5 boroughs to encourage public high school students to register to vote and engage in the democratic process. Finally, NYC Talent and its Center for Workplace Accessibility and Inclusion, Mayor's Office for Economic Opportunity, NYC Department of Small Business Services, and the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities is proud to announce a Request for Proposal (RFP) for "Co-Designing and Delivering Inclusive Employment Programs with and for People with Disabilities." This RFP seeks to take a co-design approach to developing and then implementing services that are specifically designed to: 1) empower individuals with disabilities to enter and succeed in the labor market; and 2) equip employers with the tools and strategies necessary to enhance the inclusivity and accessibility of their workplaces. Questions about the RFP: Email CDennis@sbs.nyc.gov, with a copy to WDCfiscal@sbs.nyc.gov. Questions due by end of business on Friday, March 28, 2025 Proposal submissions: Due by end of business on Friday, April 24, 2025. Congratulations to the NYU School of Professional Studies and The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation on their establishment of J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Workforce Apprenticeship Fund. This 5 million dollar fund will help create a sustainable pipeline for students graduating AAS degree students to track into careers in hospitality. This is a great example of an employer understanding their own individual needs and the type of investments necessary to push forward their industry. By creating a fund specifically focused on apprenticeship, the Foundation is targeting talent and building them with the skills they need. Partnering with an educational institution along with the model of learning and earning is robust strategy to ensure new workers have the competencies and the credentials for long term growth in their careers. The students in these programs can earn up to 30 credits for their skills learned on the job, making college completion both faster and more affordable. Online classes are available for individuals working full time building their skills and there is an option to matriculate into four year degrees for further career advancement. We need more models like these where employers and institutions collaborate on creating programming that provides a clear pathway for individuals to great careers and sustainable income. Angie Kamath, dean, NYU SPS and mayor-appointed member of the NYC Workforce Development Board and Chair of the Workforce Development Council Sub-Committee on Apprenticeship said, “Today’s higher education student is redefining the adult and professional education paradigm dramatically. Industry and post-secondary education are shifting from credentials to more diverse pathways for career-connected and skill-based learning, such as apprenticeships.” Read the full announcement by clicking here: https://lnkd.in/eRfugu4b NYC Mayor's Office of Talent and Workforce Development #ApprenticeshipNYC #YouthApprenticeships #Apprenticeships #NYCTalent
