About us
The New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) is responsible for coordinating services for New Yorkers with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, Prader-Willi syndrome, and other neurological impairments. As New York State's second-largest state agency, we employ a workforce of more than 20,000 professionals. We have positions available in every county in the state at our regional and state office locations as well as within the community. We continuously recruit for positions in direct support and frequently recruit for nurses, doctors, dentists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other clinical positions including social workers, dieticians, and occupational therapists. There are also many opportunities for people who seek administrative and clerical positions and those with backgrounds in health information management and maintenance and facility operations. People often come to OPWDD for a job but they stay for a career. Permanent, full-time New York State employees are eligible for a variety of attractive benefits including vacation, holiday, sick and personal leave; New York State Health Care Coverage; the New York State Retirement Plan; various payroll deduction savings programs including the Deferred Compensation Program, Flex Spending Accounts and Life and Disability Insurance. Congrats to all the AHRC New York City employees receiving accreditations from the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) E-Badge Academy! This program has provided dozens of AHRC NYC employees engaged in direct support with the opportunity to enhance their professional development and discover new strategies for supporting people with disabilities and their colleagues. NADSP entered into a three-year pilot partnership with OPWDD in 2022 and the program has been a resounding success since then.
