About us

New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) was founded in 1852, and today serves 905,005 electricity customers and 271,547 natural gas customers across more than 40% of upstate New York. At NYSEG, we've always been dedicated to the communities we serve, and strive daily to provide safe, reliable service to customers. That's why we provide more than electricity. We spearhead conservation efforts, encourage economic growth, assist area businesses and fund important charity organizations through established and often one-of-a-kind programs.

  • This past Saturday, our amazing line workers from the Binghamton division had the privilege of participating in the Whitney Point Alumni Organization’s Touch a Truck event at the Whitney Point Fairgrounds! 💚 From trucks of all kinds to tractors, a LifeNet helicopter, fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, and more—there was hands-on fun for the whole family! 🚜🚒🚓 We loved being part of such a wonderful community event and showing our support. Thank you to everyone who came out and made it a memorable day! 🙌 #TouchATruck #SupportLocal

After #HurricaneHelene left millions without power across the Southeast, we are proud to support recovery efforts by deploying 73 of our crews. Our teams are on their way from New York, Connecticut, and Maine to Virginia and North Carolina to help restore power and assist communities in need. "We are committed to restoring power whenever and wherever help is needed," said Pedro Azagra, Avangrid CEO. "Mutual assistance is an essential part of any wide-scale power restoration effort. Our line crews are some of the best in the industry, and I know they are eager to get to work to support the millions of Americans affected by this storm." Tioga Opportunities creates partnerships that strengthen communities while empowering individuals and families to achieve independence and enrich their quality of life. Their services include financial education and stability, health and wellness, and safe and affordable housing. Our recent donation will be used to meet community needs that current grants don’t cover, from transportation to housing.🤝

  • Last week's safety demonstration by our Cortland gas operations team showed the importance of collaboration for community safety. Our team showcased the critical importance of gas safety to the Cortland County Local Emergency Planning Committee, including the City of Cortland Fire Department and the Cortland Police Department. Together, we're not just promoting safety; we're actively weaving it into the fabric of our community!

  • Lineworkers in our Elmira division completed Pole Top Rescue training recently. 🏆 Our fastest linemen completed a resuce in 1:10. The requirement is under 4 minutes. ⏰ This timed exercise is crucial to ensure our lineworkers can safely rescue a colleague should an emergency occur while on the pole. ❗️An incident requiring rescue doesn’t always mean electrical contact. Heat illness, anaphylactic shock (think bees), cardiac arrest, and other medical emergencies could warrant rescue.

  • An important part of utility work is the mutual aid we provide to other companies and that they provide to us during emergencies. Last week, Central Hudson had a gas incident and reached out for help. We sent fitters from our gas operations, as did National Grid and Con Edison, to manually turn their customers' gas service back on. Our 12 fitters performed more than 100 relights in a 10 hour period to make sure Central Hudson's customers were restored. It takes a well oiled machine to achieve that kind of success.
