CEO of B2B Marketing Cooperative O-CMO | Fractional CMO | Marketing Strategist | Building Efficient B2B Marketing
I distinguish between the terms of Head of Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer. CMO is a strategic leadership role. That is, a CMO isn’t sorting out tasks in Trello or in Jira, but rather they’re responsible for top-level management. A Head of Marketing on the other hand is a sort of a marketing PM who should have sufficient experience in project management and people management. When I think about the tech service companies I’ve been working with, so up to 200 people of headcount, the role of Head of Marketing can be outsourced. And at my company, we offer this function alongside fractional CMO. So if you don’t have a person responsible for the marketing function on your team, it should be in place. For instance, if a founder comes to me and wants to partner with me as a Fractional CMO, the first question I will ask them is whether they have a Head of Marketing. Or any mature marketing specialist who will implement the strategy, and execute it. --- This and other thoughts are in the latest podcast (first comment)
