Decentralizing AI can open up immense benefits, from innovation to confidentiality that benefits users and devs. That's why we've been working with Aethir to unlock privacy-preserving AI use-cases. Aethir specializes in decentralized cloud infrastructure optimized for AI, using powerful GPU compute to handle complex tasks efficiently. Their infrastructure is designed to support the growing demands of AI applications at scale. At Oasis, we focus on equipping developers with confidential compute in Web3 and AI with: • Oasis Sapphire, the only confidential EVM in use • ROFL (runtime off-chain logic), currently in development Our partnership with Aethir will explore enhanced Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) powered by GPUs. This tech is key to unlocking privacy-preserving AI with on-chain confidentiality and off-chain verifiability. By combining Aethir's GPU expertise with our expertise in confidential compute for Web3 & AI, we are focused on pioneering new possibilities for decentralized AI.

Question: Why do we need decentralized AI? Answer: Fairness, innovation and utility. Decentralized AI aims to address concerns over privacy, equity, and accessibility by redistributing power in AI development. Centralized AI concentrates power in the hands of a few organizations, limiting oversight and accessibility. Decentralized AI uses blockchain to distribute ownership, governance, and transparency. Decentralized AI isn't one thing—it's a stack of technologies including energy distribution, physical infrastructure, compute, storage, and AI models. Key components like smart contracts, federated learning, TEEs, and zkML enable this decentralized ecosystem. Decentralized AI enables: • Distributed Compute Networks (e.g. Akash) • Machine Learning Training (e.g. Gensyn's decentralized model training) • Verifiable Offchain Data (e.g. ezkl and zkML ensure computations done offchain can be verified on-chain) AI agents (like those from Fetch AI) are autonomous bots that can execute tasks and transact via smart contracts. Using platforms like Oasis Sapphire with ROFL (runtime off-chain logic), their private keys can be stored confidentially on-chain, ensuring secure interactions. So...Where are we now? The decentralized AI field faces challenges like data quality, lack of standards, and high costs. Scalability is a significant hurdle, as decentralized alternatives struggle to compete with centralized incumbents in terms of resources and infrastructure. Trust also remains a challenge—without verifiable outputs, decentralized AI risks being compromised by malicious nodes. Cryptographic verification of outputs and offchain data integration is crucial for the success of decentralized AI. How can we build better? As blockchains mature, they enable trust-minimized computation for AI. Our ROFL (runtime off-chain logic) framework will bring verifiable computing to offchain workloads, unlocking enhancing composability & utility. TL;DR — Decentralized AI holds the promise of a more equitable, secure, and transparent digital future. Learn more about decentralized AI below: https://lnkd.in/ehGM-mVS
