Yesterday, our team at Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation proudly launched the first of four Home Repair Workshops in our 2025 series. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about power tools and essential safety practices. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Huntington National Bank, we were delighted to provide participants with safety goggles to keep for future use. The workshops were conducted by the exceptional team from the Home Repair Resource Center ensuring a high-quality educational experience for all involved.

  • At the end of January, Lucas Reeve will be leaving his role as Executive Director with OBCDC. After 5 years with the organization, we have seen growing excitement and investment in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood, thanks to his leadership. Lucas will be joining the City of Cleveland. “Since coming onboard with Old Brooklyn in January of 2020, I've had the pleasure to serve an amazing Board, lead a truly inspirational team, build one of the highest performing CDC’s in the city, and do what I love the most - make Old Brooklyn a better place!,” Lucas shares. Although we will miss Lucas at OBCDC, we are excited for his next journey continuing to support Cleveland! You’ll continue to see him around the neighborhood, since he calls OB home. Thank you, Lucas!

Last week Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation hosted its first Commercial Corridor Collab, a networking group for small businesses and commercial property owners in Old Brooklyn. I saw a need for this when I started at OBCDC and when I pivoted roles, and focused more of my time on small business support, I knew I needed to start rebuilding a structured opportunity for small businesses to learn from one another and hear relevant information about how to grow their businesses. I wanted it to be a space for our organization to learn from them about their successes and challenges to better advocate for their needs and support them. When planning, I met with other organizations and business owners to make sure it was a valuable experience. Our first meeting, was on January 22nd at Metropolitan Coffee and it was incredible. We had over 40 attendees from across the neighborhood, in various industries and years of experience. I was floored by the response and can't wait to see what this group will do! Thanks to Dollar Bank for sponsoring, Metropolitan Coffee for hosting, 787 Market & Cafe and Melted Wings Winery for the food and drinks, and SCORE for speaking! Our next meeting will be in April, to learn more head to oldbrooklyn.com/collab

After 18 months of meaningful community engagement and gathering invaluable resident feedback, we’re thrilled to announce that the Cleveland City Planning Commission has officially approved the proposed site strategy concepts for the Memphis and Pearl Redevelopment in Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood! This entails the restoration of the original St. Luke’s footprint and removal of additional structures to allow for new construction. A huge thank you to Cleveland City Planning Commission and Cleveland City Councilman Kris Harsh for your insightful conversations and continued support in advancing this transformative project into the next phase of detailed concept development. This milestone represents a significant step forward for our project team as we work to bring lasting, generational change to Cleveland’s largest neighborhood. Together, Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation , Pearl Road United Methodist Church, Tipping Point, and Desmone thank the Old Brooklyn community for their dedication and collaboration. We’re committed to shaping vibrant, community-driven designs and experiences at the heart of Old Brooklyn's downtown. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this exciting journey with the community!

  • We were excited to bring our members, partners, and sponsors together for OBCDC’s Annual Meeting last night at @Ariel Pearl Center, sponsored by @beneschlaw. Executive Director, Lucas Reeve, shared key highlights and growth at the organization and in the neighborhood with the Commercial Corridor Needs Assessment along Broadview Road, the overwhelming response to OB StreetFest, and our 50 for 50 campaign. This fundraising campaign is to raise $50K for our 50th Anniversary, kicking off this year. Funds will go toward an accessible community room for Old Brooklyn! Donate today at the link in our bio. The members voted in 3 new board members: Kerry Capwell, Jacob Vansickle, and David Sharkey! We are excited to welcome their presence and expertise to our Board of Directors. We also recognized Founders Award recipient, Darlene Glass, and our top 3 MVPs this year: Annie Myatt, Chris Jeon (not pictured), Logan Sindone who collectively put in 85 volunteer hours this year. And a special shout out to @opalonpearl for hosting a happy hour following the event! To read our Annual Report, head to our website!
