The Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA) is gaining significant traction in Congress, marking the most progress it's seen since its introduction 12 years ago. With momentum building, there is real potential for the legislation to pass this year. During recent meetings with Congressional staff, we were strongly encouraged to maintain advocacy efforts, particularly by having healthcare providers reach out to members of Congress. Your voice can make a critical difference. We invite you to learn more about TROA and send an editable, pre-written letter to your representatives. Personalizing your letter with details about how the lack of comprehensive care coverage affects your patients will strengthen the message. Take action and learn more today at: https://bit.ly/4h4Ht18 #Obesity #TROA #ObesityAdvocacy

Yesterday, the Congressional Budget Office released its report, “How Would Authorizing Medicare to Cover Anti-Obesity Medications Affect the Federal Budget?” We appreciate the CBO’s important addition to the conversation around increasing access to obesity treatment for Medicare beneficiaries and the work that went into their cost estimate. However, we are disappointed that the report does not address the expansion of intensive behavioral therapy and, therefore, the potential for additional cost savings. Ensuring access to obesity care is critical for improving health outcomes and reducing long-term healthcare costs. On behalf of the millions of older Americans living with obesity, the Obesity Care Advocacy Network (OCAN) will continue to advocate for increased access to treatments and care. Please see below for our complete statement. https://lnkd.in/eZ4UbRDm
