Object Office reposted this
Since the age of 10 - I’ve worn glasses. They are a deeply personal object - and something I’ve always wanted design for myself. I’ve fallen in love with a number of glasses and eyewear brands throughout my life (MYKITA , RETROSUPERFUTURE® , and Jacques Marie Mage) to name a few - but still the itch to design something for myself has remained. Few objects get to occupy such an important place on your body and in your life. They become part of your identity, your brand, and the story you tell the world about who you are. When I started Object Office - I wanted to work on a series of objects that painted a picture of the stories these types of objects could tell. "Personal Eyewear" is a culmination of the values, details, and materiality I’ve come to appreciate in eyewear. Its sculpted form is referential of different heritage inspired acetate frames (think 1980’s Dior), while the polished stainless steel feels decidedly futuristic. It is a familiar and inviting simple gesture - while simultaneously feeling novel and unexpected from a materiality POV. It is by no-means an efficient object. It is heavier than your average eyewear, expensive, and laborious to machine and polish. But it are these inherent qualities of craft that make it desirable. It is these intangibles that make you want to touch it, feel the weight in your hands - and ultimately put it on your face. Intangibles are often the thing that drive adoption, creates desire, and can make or break if a design is accepted... Especially if it lives on the body. – Object Office is a luxury creative studio at the intersection of industrial design, technology, and fashion.
