Here’s an important piece from Steve Lohr in The New York Times on balancing AI's energy demands with its extraordinary possibilities for science, featuring our portfolio company, Zanskar Geothermal & Minerals, Inc. Zanskar is using AI to revolutionize geothermal exploration to solve these energy needs and unlock generative science’s full potential.

The amount of computing power needed to power new AI models from one generation to the next is increasing tenfold. All this energy produces performance-limiting heat—lots of it. Silicon microchips become unreliable if they run any hotter than 221 degrees Fahrenheit. Enter the best conductor known to humanity: Diamond. In 2023, Diamond Foundry created the world’s first single-crystal diamond wafer. This is a massive breakthrough for semiconductors, as silicon and diamond-paired chips run 3X faster and generate less heat than traditional chips.

Check out Cameron Yarbrough, co-founder of Torch, in The New York Times discussing why coaching should be accessible to everyone.
📣 Proud to see our co-founder Cameron Yarbrough featured in The New York Times! As a licensed therapist turned coach, Cameron brings a unique perspective to leadership development. Through conversations with Cameron, other notable coaches, and therapists, author Daniel Duane surfaced some incredible insights about the importance of coaching for individuals and organizations, and why coaching should be accessible to everyone (we agree!). Torch investor Garry Tan said, “A lot of startups die not because of technical or engineering reasons but purely people reasons.” He's totally right and, while the New York Times article is focused on coaching for tech startups, we know coaching can benefit organizations of every size and in every industry. Toward the end of the article, Cameron says it best: people who experience coaching–and stick with it–"actually become better human beings." Read how Torch is democratizing coaching for all levels, not just the C-suite, here: https://lnkd.in/e-HBucm4

Pi Health’s mission is to bring clinical trials to everyone. Trials are pivotal in medical advances and improved patient outcomes, yet only 2% to 8% of eligible cancer patients participate in them. And 80% of clinical trials are delayed or closed due to enrollment issues. Using their AI-assisted software platform to reduce friction and costs while increasing patient enrollment, Pi Heath is working to improve access to clinical trials in the U.S., India, Australia, and Brazil.

One in 36 children in the United States are diagnosed with autism, according to the CDC. That means that every year, tens of thousands of parents begin a crash course in learning how their child’s brain works differently and what they can do to help their kid navigate the challenges of their diagnosis. Positive Development found that developmental therapy is the best approach, and they are now the largest provider of the therapy in the U.S. They currently serve more than 1,100 families across eight states. Most importantly, its model is now covered by insurers. Making its services affordable—especially to families with limited resources—is a huge part of its mission.
