  • NORTH CANTON, Ohio — North Canton police say a forklift that was allegedly stolen from a Wendy's construction site in the 200 block of Applegrove Street NW was used to steal an ATM from the Fifth Third Bank in the 1600 block of North Main Street. Police say they were alerted to the situation shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday, according to details shared by the department on their Facebook page. When officers arrived at the scene, they reportedly found the forklift abandoned behind the bank along with debris from the ATM. Police say the value of the ATM and its contents are unknown.

  • JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Most rodeos feature bulls and broncos, but for one company, they saddled up on forklifts. Nice-Pak of Jonesboro held a rodeo on Tuesday, Oct. 8, against their sister factory in Indiana. The forklift rodeo featured three obstacle courses, requiring drivers to complete different tasks. Warehouse Manager Jim Kellett explained why they hosted this unique event. “We were wanting to heighten our sense of safety awareness to our associates, so we came up with this idea to have a forklift rodeo, and people have just responded in such a positive way to this,” Kellett said. Everybody from floor employees to the company’s CEO, Gary Giles, came out to watch the competition. “So many safety issues revolve around forklifts, so making sure that they are trained and have the chance to show that training reinforces the message of safety,” Giles said. Between corralling his forklift, one of the drivers explained what the competition meant for him. “This competition is very much fun, it’s very exciting, it’s very competitive, and it’s mainly about safety, and making sure that we’re all okay at the end of the day,” Brent Miller said.

  • On March 17, Robert Christopher Wood, 37, was servicing the hydraulic system of a Taylor forklift under the raised carriage/forks. A sudden loss of hydraulic pressure caused the carriage/forks to fall onto Wood, which resulted in his death, according to company officials. His obituary states he had lived his entire life in the Craven County town of Cove City. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast who was known for his kind heart and mechanical inclinations, according to his obituary. A Weyerhaeuser sawmill facility in Craven County received a $48,393 fine from the N.C. Department of Labor related to a March 17 workplace fatality. The Labor Department cited Weyerhaeuser with three “serious violations” after an investigation of the fatality at the facility in Vanceboro. “The penalties are in no way designed to make up for the loss of life,” according to a statement from the Department of Labor.

  • STAFFORD, Va - Earlier on Saturday, Deputy G.P. McCaulley responded to a crash on Widewater Road involving a forklift that entered the roadway and landed on top of a passing car. The crash led to another road closure. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported in either incident. The sheriff’s office reminded drivers to “drive carefully and obey all highway signs” to prevent similar accidents.
