When generative artificial intelligence (Gen-AI) creates a particular work, questions arise about whether copyright, patent, or trademark protections apply. Uncertainty also surrounds the ownership of AI-generated works. Furthermore, tech companies face growing lawsuits for using copyrighted material to train their AI programs. Senior Director Garrett Glover notes “With the tremendous market opportunity of AI comes many IP questions. From the inputs used to train Gen-AI to the output Gen-AI creates, debates are ongoing concerning IP issues in the Gen-AI marketplace. Companies that use Gen-AI need to be aware of the IP questions currently in debate by lawmakers, as well as those being litigated over, so that risk can be mitigated appropriately.” In the J.S. Held Global Risk Report, we combine the technical, scientific, financial, and strategic expertise of our team members to provide insight on top influential topics for 2024. Wireless 3GPP standards will soon approach 6G. Each generation of wireless network tech introduces new capabilities—some mandatory, some optional. Mobile devices and network systems may conform to new generations of standards, but network operators must activate the standards features on their networks. The knowledge of the deployment of current features versus future, and implementation of such features on mobile devices supported by networks is a valuable insight into the assessment of the applicability and future relevance of our clients’ IP. Our new paper explores the role of live network testing in gaining insights into network capabilities, the deployment status of 5G features on US networks, and useful insights into worldwide network deployments.
