FEMA ArtWorks Climate Resiliency, Photography and Storytelling Exhibition Artist Feature: Making Waves Artist Collaborative 💚 Making Waves is a team of three artists, poets, educators, organizers, and Lake-facing humans who are passionate about creating intimacy and relationships with Great Salt Lake, the creatures that call the Lake their home, and our connected waterbodies. The founders are Artist & Poet Sarah May, Poet & River Writing Collective Facilitator Nan Seymour, and Artist & Educator Therese Berry. We warmly invite you to join Making Waves Artist Collaborative at the OCA Block pARTy on September 14th for a Celebrate the Species Pageant Parade, from 12-1pm. Making Waves Artist Collaborative will lead the parade with their waves, flags, and puppets. The pageant will be located at Dumke Arts Plaza and will last about an hour — beginning with instructions for participants, and then the parade will commence! This pageant parade celebrates species of the Great Salt Lake. Everyone is invited! FEMA ArtWorks Climate Resiliency, Photography and Storytelling Exhibition presents works from artists investigating and sharing the stories of communities and lands that are adapting to a changing climate. From sublime foreshadowing to documentation of the real ways natural hazards affect our lives; artists shine a light on resilient communities and their stories of loss, adaptation, mitigation, and restoration. In collaboration with FEMA Region 8, Resilience Action Partners, SW Gallery & Science Center, Ogden Contemporary Arts, and RedLine Contemporary Art Center. This exhibition runs through October 13.

Meet Jennifer Primbs, an OCA Board Member! To get to know her, we asked her a few questions about why/how she became an OCA board member. 🤔 👉 "Serendipitously I met Eric Garcia’s wife, Amanda, at our local nature center. She told me about OCA, that her husband was OCA’s Artist in Residence and invited me to attend the community mural painting that Eric was holding that weekend. I came with my family we helped paint the mural. It was so amazing to be a part of a community art project that had such a powerful message. I was able to talk with Eric about his art work, his military experience, and his travels with his family. That lead me to see his exhibit, which I found very moving and thought provoking. I went to a family dinner that evening and ended up talking to my brother in law, Andrew Primbs about Eric's exhibit. Andrew was an OCA Board member at the time and saw how excited I was about Eric’s artwork. He told me about OCA, their art programming and what they do in the community and we had a really energizing conversation. He thought I would be a good fit to join OCA’s board and asked if I would like to come in for an interview. I met some amazing board members and OCA’s executive director and knew right away that I wanted to be part of this organization. "I have a lot of experience working in the nonprofit sector, with an emphasis on community outreach. I became really excited for the opportunity to bring in people from the community to see high-caliber contemporary art and also talk about the education side of OCA, Artist Factory, which brings art and art history into area public schools. As a fellow creative, joining the board has really acted as a catalyst for me: who I’ve had the opportunity to meet, the art I’ve been able to see and interact with, how it has helped me explore new avenues for my own writing projects as well as put me contact with artists who are also multidisciplinary in their approaches to their artwork".
