So thrilled that Justin Nobel’s book “Petroleum-238: Big Oil’s Dangerous Secret and the Grassroots Fight to Stop It” is being released today. The footage in this teaser captures the moment when our geiger counter (used to detect and measure ionizing radiation) maxed out at an abandoned fracking waste processing facility in Fairmont, West Virginia. Thank you Justin, your investigation is an ultimate fuel for the fire to end the devastation and power of the oil and gas empire. https://lnkd.in/euRAwBJw

This week, our Director, Jill Hunkler, will be representing EARTHWORKS at the fourth Global Plastic Treaty Negotiations in Ottawa, CA. In February 2022, the UNEP and its country members voted for a resolution to end plastic pollution worldwide. An Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) was created to facilitate five meetings to negotiate the global framework and targets. The objective of the global plastics treaty is to set a global framework of standards around accountability, responsibilities, financing, material/chemical standards, import/export restrictions, and targets. From this global framework, countries will be tasked with implementing globally aligned policies that meet the targets set. Jill has witnessed firsthand the devastating impacts of the petrochemical industry in the Ohio River Valley. Her message is that the cradle-to-grave impacts of plastic on human health and the environment must be considered in these negotiations.  In preparation for the negotiations beginning on Tuesday, Jill joined coalition members and participated in a mobilization march to demand that the world delegates listen to the voices of the frontline communities and have a legally binding plastic treaty.  Photo credit: Mark Dixon
