Yesterday, Memorial Health System - Ohio celebrated breaking ground for the new Women and Children's Hospital in Belpre, Ohio! 🙌 “What this hospital represents is a major commitment by all of us to dramatically improve healthcare in Southeast Ohio,” said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. “Our goal is pretty simple … we want every child in this state to live up to their God-given potential … We know it’s important to remove health barriers, whether it’s a mental health problem, addiction problem, whatever it is, to get help for that individual.” The new hospital is anticipated to open within two years and will provide much-needed care to families in Southeast Ohio.

📣 Wedgewood Connect Ohio, in collaboration with JobsOhio, OhioSE, the Athens County Economic Development Council (ACEDC), and Ohio Department of Development, today announced an investment of over $5.5 million to establish a new facility in Albany, Ohio, creating 51 new jobs. The investment is being supported by a tax credit from the Ohio Department of Development and a $750,000 JobsOhio Revitalization Grant. “This is Wedgewood’s first investment in Ohio, and we welcome them to beautiful Athens County,” said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. “The fact that Wedgewood chose to expand into Ohio demonstrates the importance of JobsOhio’s work to attract businesses and create jobs in communities of all sizes.” Wedgewood Connect Ohio is a subsidiary of Specialty Pharma III Inc. dba Wedgewood Pharmacy, the largest compounding pharmacy in the United States devoted exclusively to animal health. “In communities everywhere, we’re seeing a trend where a brewery comes in and inspires other businesses to come into the area or to renovate. I'm not saying that we're necessarily responsible for this, but we're seeing momentum here in McConnelsville: now there's a great little coffee shop by us, a restaurant that has been a staple for years reopened, gift and craft shops that recently opened as well as the fantastic, historic bed and breakfast, and there are a couple of new entertainment spots offering activities like virtual golf or pool. The key is to work together as a group. The goal of a business is to make money, of course, but more importantly, a goal for a lot of us here is to help build the community up. I think we're working together to do that. It's a great town. It's beautiful, too. I ride my bike a lot, and people will travel hundreds of miles to ride their bikes in beautiful places, and all I have to do is walk out my door and I'm there. So it’s worth it to me to keep that and share that, so everybody can see what a great place this is. I grew up here and raised my kids here. Hopefully, my grandkids will live and work here, too. Schmelzer Industries, in conjunction with JobsOhio and OhioSE, today announced it will invest more than $850,000 in its Perry County facility, creating four new jobs. “Schmelzer Industries is very pleased to be a recipient of this award through the JobsOhio Small Business Grant,” said Jean Schmelzer, President of Schmelzer Industries. “We are excited that new investment is being encouraged in Perry County and Southeast Ohio. This assistance will help upgrade our processes and equipment and keep us relevant in the fiberglass market.
