The Omaha Sports Commission just completed a series of events that has been a dream for our team for many years! Our Platte River Rumble Cross Country Series was a great success, showcasing one of the only dedicated cross country courses in the region- located at Mahoney State Park (Nebraska Game and Parks Commission)! The inaugural high school/middle school event (September 8) had 2,049 runners showcasing their speed on a gorgeous fall day. Runner had some blistering times and everybody enjoyed the competitive atmosphere of the day. The second annual collegiate races took place on Oct 13 and showcased some of the best schools in the state, along with solid performances from as far away as Wisconsin. The weather wasn't quite as nice with a whipping wind and misting rain, but the times were just as fast. Local teams took home first place in both races (University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the women, and Creighton University for the men). This cross country series was a dream come true for Omaha Sports Commission Executive Director Lindsay Toussant who started talks to create this course over four years ago. OSC worked with fellow dreamers University of Nebraska at Omaha Coach Cliff Cisar and Creighton University Coach Chris Gannon Thanks to all who have made the Platte River Rumble a huge success, and we are looking forward to more great races in years to come!
