As we near the end of 2023, our team surveyed 150+ junior-level consultants + bankers (2-3 YOE) to see how they’re approaching the job hunt. We found that 80% of the group was open to new work opportunities, with more than half listing career growth as the main driver for their job switch, over compensation and WLB. If you have a top performer you are trying to retain (or attract), here are a few strategies to consider: 1. Empower with Responsibility. Junior employees cite looking for opportunities to take on more responsibility and ownership of projects. Allowing them to lead initiatives or collaborate on key projects not only helps in skill development but also boosts confidence. Ensure they receive constructive feedback and support as they navigate these responsibilities, creating a conducive environment for learning and growth. 2. Invest time into their Development. Spend time discussing career goals and aspirations with junior team members, and work with them to create a plan for their professional development (or even to outline a path toward promotion). This clarity can motivate junior employees and give them a sense of purpose. 3. Include them in Important Conversations whenever possible. Open dialogue and access to leadership is key to supporting professional growth. Including junior employees in conversations about company-wide changes or growth plans will give them the opportunity to not only learn from their superiors, but also to offer valuable feedback and feel valued themselves. #recruitingtips #careerdevelopment
