Last week we were asked: Why are there no significant advancements in material science with AI? There are! Here is one: Earlier this month, GenMat was acquired by Comstock, superseding a milestone-based investment of $50 million for 50% of equity back in 2021. It’s a great showcase of how AI can advance humanity and science: GenMat uses machine learning and quantum computing to accelerate breakthroughs in materials engineering. It is one of the world’s first AI for materials science and uses physics-based modeling to rapidly discover new materials: ➡️ Determine and access the required materials ➡️ Understanding of material properties at quantum level ➡️ Lower R&D costs of advanced materials ➡️ Optimized design and manufacturing The models were optimized for silicon-based semiconductors and are being expanded for photovoltaics, superconductors, and batteries. We expect to see a lot more activity happening. If you are a founder at the intersection of materials and AI - reach out! #materials #ai #quantum

Huge Congratulations to the whole Drafter team for reaching this milestone! Drafter holds a very special place in my heart. During my career at Apple, I spent literally thousands of hours working on drawings for assemblies of hundreds of parts. Frankly, it was a pain in the ass. From balancing the needs of the design assembly to understanding the manufacturing complexity implications to predicting the cost implications, working on drawings required months of back and forth between multiple teams for every product launch. The more tenured folks on the team had this sixth sense around what would work better and what wouldn't, but I was always frustrated that the learnings sharing couldn't happen on a more efficient basis. A lot of this knowledge base was well defined, but not well shared until after you suffered through a few expensive mistakes. And given the bandwidth constraints of more tenured members of the team, I'm sure lots of potential optimization was left unrealized in each of our programs. Drafter is the first step at solving these pain points! I've been so impressed by Chris Barton, Peter Atkin, and the whole Drafter team for their thoughtfulness and strategy in bringing this vision to life. This product launch is just the first step in many exciting things to come. We started Omni Ventures to support companies exactly like this. I can't wait for the worst parts of my old job to be a thing of the past!
We’re Live Innovative hardware companies need to maximize the time their engineers spend engineering, and minimize the time they spend doing… anything else. That’s not happening today. Mechanical teams spent thousands of hours on 2D GD&T technical drawings. On average 20% of a MechE’s time goes to drawings: creation, review, redlining, back-and-forths, etc. For a 5-person team, that’s like losing an entire engineer to paperwork. Drafter has officially launched to solve this. We’re changing the way engineers bring designs to manufacturing by automating the process and creating the highest-quality ASME Y14.5-2018 compliant GD&T manufacturing specs in *minutes*. With early customers building high-precision products in aerospace, robotics and automotive, Drafter is giving teams more engineering horsepower and redefining how hardware is designed for manufacturing. If you’re an engineer or manager who’s tired of spending countless hours on drawings, check out Drafter. Sign up for early access and see how we can shave two weeks off your next development cycle. #Engineering #Manufacturing #Innovation #Productivity #Automation #Tolerancing #Dimensioning #MechanicalEngineering #DesignAutomation #DrafterLaunch

🚀 We're Excited to Announce Our Investment in Drafter! 🚀 Omni Ventures is thrilled to announce our investment into Drafter. Drafter is revolutionizing the way designers and manufacturers communicate by streamlining the alignment of design functionality, cost, and production time. They are unlocking modern levels of efficiency for engineering design and manufacturing for all industries, from aerospace to automotive to consumer electronics. Their first product, the automation of 2D Drawing creation, marks the first big step towards that goal. This product launch is just the beginning, and we’re eager to support them as they continue to pave the way for creating a new standard for how parts are designed and manufactured. #VentureCapital #ProductDesign #ManufacturingTech #2DDrawings #Innovation #OmniVentures

This one is for the founders! This week we’re sitting down with Jason Shepherd, CEO of Atym, who will be walking us through the history of embedded systems and how Atym discovered an extremely compelling opportunity within the industry. We’ll be delving into some hot topics like why an Open Source component to your business model may actually make sense for your Deep Tech business (and how to avoid repeating Docker’s monetization failures) and how to get past the ‘POC friend zone’ when working with large corporations. If you’re doing anything even tangentially related to embedded systems or working on scaling a steeply technical business with large corporate customers, you won’t want to miss it! #venturecapital #founders #embeddedsystems #OmniVentures

🚀 We're Excited to Announce Our Lead Investment in Atym's Seed Round! 🚀 Omni Ventures is thrilled to partner with Emerson Ventures, Chevron Technology Ventures, Dolby Family Ventures, Bee Partners, and Tuscan Management in supporting Atym. Atym’s product offering has the potential to completely transform the management of highly constrained embedded devices for a variety of industries. They have already had an impressive year, seeding the code base for Project Ocre - a revolutionary containerization solution, and joining Margo Initiative - a powerful orchestrator of orchestrators, both with the Linux Foundation alongside ABB, Capgemini, Cosmonic, Dianomic, Intel, Microsoft, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric, Siemens, SUSE, and ZEDEDA. Atym is set to redefine how applications are developed and managed across a multitude of industries due to their breakthrough using 1000 times less memory than traditional container softwares. By breaking through the "Linux barrier," Atym brings cloud-native development principles to resource-constrained devices ranging from sensors and smart cameras to industrial controllers and autonomous systems—enabling them to run containerized applications and become more sophisticated, secure, and easier to manage. This innovation is crucial as industries across the board continue to demand more from their existing systems, looking for ways to enable them with AI integration, improved security, and management capabilities without needing to upgrade their hardware. We strongly believe in Atym’s vision and are proud to back their mission to revolutionize the embedded system landscape. The traction they’ve already achieved is just the beginning, and we’re eager to support them as they continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Here’s to the future of constrained devices innovation! 🌟 #VentureCapital #EmbeddedSystems #Innovation #IoT #OmniVentures
