At The Oncology Institute, we believe it's important to spread awareness about different types of cancer because early detection and education can save lives. Appendix cancer is a rare and serious condition that starts in the cells lining the appendix. Though rare, with about 10 cases per million people annually, it’s crucial to raise awareness for better diagnosis and treatment. Common symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, and increased girth can be mistaken for other conditions such as appendicitis or ovarian cysts, which is why appendix cancer is often misdiagnosed. Early detection and specialized treatment are essential for improving outcomes. If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, consult with a specialist. Together, we can bring hope to those affected by rare diseases.

Join us in raising awareness and support for those affected by lung cancer. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in the US, accounting for about 125,070 deaths in 2024. This year, approximately 234,580 new cases of lung cancer are expected to be diagnosed. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) makes up about 80-85% of these cases, while small cell lung cancer (SCLC) accounts for 10-15%. Risk factors include smoking, secondhand smoke, exposure to radon and asbestos, and certain workplace chemicals. Quitting smoking and early detection are crucial steps to reduce the risk and improve outcomes. Together, we can promote awareness, encourage early detection, and support ongoing research. Let's work towards a future where lung cancer no longer poses a threat to our loved ones.

July is Sarcoma and Bone Cancer Awareness Month! Join us in spreading hope and support for those affected by sarcoma and bone cancer. Sarcomas, a rare group of cancers, form in the bones or soft tissues like cartilage, fat, muscle, and blood vessels. Sarcomas account for a very small percentage of all adult cancers but have a significant impact on those affected. In 2024, approximately 13,590 cases of soft tissue sarcomas and 3,970 cases of bone and joint cancers are expected to be diagnosed in the United States. Risk factors for sarcomas include certain inherited disorders, past radiation therapy, exposure to specific chemicals, and long-term lymphedema. Understanding these risks is crucial for early detection and treatment. We are committed to raising awareness about sarcomas and bone cancers, promoting early detection, and supporting innovative research. Together, we can fight these rare cancers with hope and determination!
