An honest post about my superpower.

View profile for Janet Carlson, graphic

CEO/CD, Copy, TEDx Speaker, We provide expert agency services for small/medium healthcare, biopharma, and rare disease companies, delivering strategy + tactics. We are the agency the big agencies call for our expertise.

Ideation is my superpower...but sometimes it bites me in the ass. I can whip up new companies, innovative programs, cutting-edge marketing ideas, or groundbreaking strategies. 💡Some of these ideas are absolute game-changers. But here’s the kicker: not everyone   appreciates new ideas. I know. Hard to believe. ⏩ Sure, innovation is the lifeblood of progress, but it can also be met with resistance. Sometimes, people just aren’t ready for change, even when it’s clearly for the better. They cling to the familiar, and suddenly, my brilliant idea is seen as a disruptive force rather than the opportunity it truly is. 🛑 Navigating this pushback can be challenging. It’s a balancing act of pushing boundaries without stepping on too many toes. But the rewards of breaking through and seeing those ideas come to life? Absolutely worth it. How do you balance the need for innovation with the resistance to change in your organization? Leave me a comment below!

While it is tempting to explain things about what we do as an ad agency, sometimes, it is best to let your client speak for themselves: "The Rare Disease BRANDMap™ was an easy one for us at Abcuro. It required no preparation from our executive team, only an hour’s conversation with Janet and Glenna to address questions about our mission, goals, and the current status of our development and commercialization process. A short time later, we received two written reports, one covering strategy recommendations and the other covering tactical recommendations, and had the opportunity to clarify the findings via conference calls. We received two benefits from the exercise. First, the results confirmed the correctness of our current direction and second, they showed us new things we should be considering. Both were very valuable. Any rare disease company or brand team, especially in the early phases of R&D, could benefit from what the Rare Disease BRANDMap™ offers." - Karen Tubridy, Chief Operating Officer, Abcuro I could NOT have said it better myself! Our thanks to Alex Martin, CEO and Karen Turbridy, COO of Abcuro! To learn more, go to www.111-group.com. This past week I took time and hit the road. Spent time with my children, my college roomie and my besties from high school. One of the best things about being an entrepreneur is that you run your schedule. I love these journeys, because it gives me time to THINK and as an ideator, this is gold. I head back to work today, with a fresh mind and lots of great ideas! How do you refresh your super powers? Leave me a comment below!

It seems I was destined to work in rare disease - it's been around me my whole life! Combining a purpose with a passion is a sure way to have an impact!

View profile for Janet Carlson, graphic

CEO/CD, Copy, TEDx Speaker, We provide expert agency services for small/medium healthcare, biopharma, and rare disease companies, delivering strategy + tactics. We are the agency the big agencies call for our expertise.

As a kid, I had a passion for science. Still do. But after graduating with a Pre-Med in Biology, I craved a brief respite from academia before diving into medical school. Against family objections, I found the competitive arena of pharmaceuticals. Against all odds, I got a position at Pfizer. It harmonized my outgoing nature with being a science geek. Yes, I was one of THOSE people. NO. I didn’t ‘push’ drugs., even though my mother introduced me as a “drug dealer” to family friends (she was still mad about me putting off med school). Contrary to what my mother said, I communicated scientific, FDA-approved data about how Pfizer therapies could help patients. My life had already been touched deeply by illness: my mother's homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) greatly impacted our lives. She started having heart attacks in her early 30’s - she had 2 heart attacks, a quadruple and a triple bypass and a pacemaker. We had to eat differently as a family to support her health and one never knew when she’d be hospitalized…again. Or if she’d make it that time. My brothers were both diagnosed with the same genetic profile as our mother and started lipid regulators as young teens. I dodged all of the genetic horrors, but it had a profound effect on me. I learned to watch for symptoms of heart distress - observing her coloring, her breathing. These experiences sculpted me not just as a person but as a professional. They fueled my career, which would eventually include advertising to illuminate the shadows cast by rare diseases. For that reason, what I do is more than a business; it's a mission-driven passion to connect companies with what they offer to patients, families, and healthcare professionals in need. Unless that connection is expedited and solid, nothing else matters. Are you a patient or family member who needs a rare disease solution? Are you a rare disease company with a solution? Now that you’ve heard a few of my stories, I’d love to hear yours. Leave me a comment! #raredisease #rarediseases
