💀 Fleet tracking traps: 5/18 💀 ⛔ "Free" device installation ⛔ Look, I get it, free installation sounds appealing. But based on numerous reports from having worked with over 15,000 fleets the realities of "free" installation claims are bit more nuanced and the actual costs are often not disclosed upfront. Here are what you should look out for if you're considering a "free" installation provider: 1. If you're locked into a contract it's not actually free installation, it's a deferred cost. And you can expect to pay for it in higher monthly prices. 2. Believe it or not, it can take several months before your provider actually installs the devices in your fleet while you're stuck paying monthly costs with nothing to show for it in the meantime. Sadly this happens often. 3. If the devices are low-quality you could end up spending time and money to replace them multiple times.  4. Some fleet tracking companies will only let their own staff touch the GPS devices which can lead to logistical nightmares and long periods of device downtime. If you're entertaining a "free" installation offer, make sure you discuss these points with your sales rep and are satisfied with their responses before moving forward.
