About us
Selecting the right college is one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make. The admission process has changed dramatically since most parents applied to college, and families today are seeking to gain an edge in this increasingly competitive landscape. It’s helpful to understand the many complex factors that go into an admit/deny decision, and it’s crucial that your teens select “best fit” colleges where they can thrive. 26% of high achieving students have employed private college counselors to help steer them toward colleges and universities where they will succeed. At One-Stop we use a comprehensive approach; we work with students as young as those entering ninth grade, encouraging them to explore and build upon their best qualities well before the college application begins. It’s never too early (or too late) to start the process!

“…can the Ivy League continue to be a place where student-athletes test themselves against the best? In sports that have not yet been monetized, signs point to yes.. But in higher-revenue sports, the Ivies’ era of graduating top talent might be over.” #ivyleague #ncaa #collegerecruiting #collegesports #collegeplanning

Want to transfer to #UCLA? #UCBerkeley? “The University of California (UC) prioritizes community college students over other transfers. California community college students constitute at least 90% of transfers at each UC campus with undergraduate education. Some students are transferring from their UC campus to a community college in hopes of then transferring to another UC campus they favor more.” #collegeadmissions #collegetransfers #collegebound #highschoolstudents #communitycollege

The University of Pennsylvania has discontinued its 7-year accelerated Bio-Dental program, which allowed #Penn students to matriculate into their dental school during their senior year of college. It was a terrific opportunity, enabling students to graduate as dentists just seven years after high school. Interestingly, several other colleges, Villanova, Lehigh, Muhlenberg, and Hampton Universities, continue to offer accelerated programs with Penn Dental. #collegeplanning #careerplanning #collegeadmissoins #highschoolstudents.

A current Yale University freshman describes his experience last year going through the college admission process: “A year ago today, I felt the weight of the world bearing down on my shoulders as I attempted to navigate the next phase of my life, the questions of my future swirling in my head. Where would I end up? How do I make myself palatable to colleges? How could I make my parents proud?” #collegeadmissions #IvyLeague #collegestress #collegeplanning #collegebound

California’s Governor Newsom just signed legislation banning private colleges and universities from “giving special consideration to applicants who have family or other connections to the schools, a practice known as legacy preferences.” Maryland is the only other state with legislation that affects private colleges. This new law will take affect beginning September 2025. Some believe it’s the right move to eliminate legacy and donors as factors in admission, while others feel it’s an “overreach of state power.” #collegeadmissions #legacyadmissions #collegeplanning #highschoolstudents

“A growing number of high-school seniors in the North… are heading to Clemson, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Alabama and other universities in the South. Students say they are searching for the fun and school spirit...Their parents cite lower tuition and less debt, and warmer weather. College counselors also say many teens are eager to trade the political polarization… for the sense of community epitomized by the South’s football Saturdays.” #collegelife #collegeplanning #highschoolstudents #collegepolitics
