🚀 Wrapping up AIM Connect Winter Semester 24/25 with a Bang! 🎉 Last week, we celebrated the grand finale of this year’s AIM Connect program at the OneAIM Winter Summit! The event kicked off with two thought-provoking keynotes: ✨ Christoph Haarburger shared his professional journey, offering valuable lessons from his startup, ocumeda. ✨ Manuel Grossmann provided an expert perspective on the most pressing and promising fields for VC investments in healthcare. Following the keynotes, the spotlight was on the Makethon pitches! A huge congratulations to Patris Valera and Taisya Volodina, who impressed the jury with their groundbreaking idea of an intelligent documentation agent for the OR! 🏆 Their vision highlights the transformative power of AI in optimizing surgical workflows. The evening also marked the successful graduation of our Winter Semester 24/25 AIM Connect batch - a fantastic group of highly educated and passionate students. 🌟 Hackathon Weekend of the AIM Connect Batch Program 🌟 The grand finale of the AIM Connect Program was the AIM Makeathon! Over an intense and inspiring weekend, our participants tackled pressing challenges in the Med-Tech field, striving to develop creative and impactful solutions. To kick things off, each participant researched a “Problem Space” in Medicine/Med-Tech that sparked their interest—whether it was linked to a session from this semester or another complex issue. They summarized their findings in a three-slide presentation and shared them with the entire batch during Friday’s kick-off session. From these presentations, teams were formed around the most compelling challenges: 1. Unmet doctor’s appointments 📆 2. Documentation overload in ORs 📝 3. Reordering of consumables 💉 4. Making medical studies more attractive 👨🏫 Over the next two days, the teams worked intensively to analyze these challenges, develop innovative solutions, and craft a compelling 3-minute pitch. To help refine their presentations, participants attended a Pitch Workshop with Bastian Burger from TUM Venture Labs, gaining valuable insights into effective storytelling and persuasion. The final pitches were presented at the OneAIM Winter Summit, where our expert judges Christoph Haarburger and Manuel Grossmann evaluated the ideas. Congratulations to Patris Valera and Taisya Volodina for taking home the win—and the prize money sponsored by Amino Collective! 🚀

🧬💻 AIM Connect Visit at Helmholtz – Exploring the Intersection of AI & Biomedicine A few weeks ago, the participants of the AIM Connect Batch Program had the incredible opportunity to visit the Helmholtz Center in Neuherberg. As one of the leading research institutions, Helmholtz is dedicated to studying environmental and metabolic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and COPD. A key focus of the center is biomedicine, where an interdisciplinary network of scientists collaborates on cutting-edge research. The Helmholtz Center houses a large biobank, providing an invaluable resource for developing AI-driven algorithms in healthcare. Our participants were fortunate to meet researchers and explore a variety of exciting projects, including: 🎙️ Talks by: 🔹 Vladimir Shitov, Malte Lücken Lab – Machine learning models on single-cell data and their clinical translation, especially in lung research. 🔹 Muhammed Furkan Dasdelen, Carsten Marr Lab – Deep learning algorithms for image analysis and single-cell profiling. 🔹 Almut Voigts, Francesco Paolo Casale Lab – Systems genetics and machine learning applications. 🔹 Georgia Katsoula, Eleftheria Zeggini Lab – Translating genomic insights into disease mechanisms and precision medicine. 🔹 Raphael Kfuri Rubens, Fabian Theis Lab – AI applications in computational biology, including single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial molecular profiling. 🔹 Ekin Yaman, MD, Sarah Kim-Hellmuth Lab – Genetic basis of immune response variation and its clinical applications. 🚀  Inside BrainLab: A Deep Dive into Surgical Innovation! 🧠 Our batch program has been buzzing with activity, which is why this update is a little late - but worth the wait! Two weeks ago, our participants had the incredible opportunity to visit BrainLab, where they explored cutting-edge innovations in precision medicine and surgical robotics. 🔬 What they experienced: - Live demonstrations of BrainLab’s groundbreaking technology - An exclusive tour of labs, prototype rooms, and offices A huge thank you to the Brainlab Team, especially Martin Immerz, for hosting us once again!
