🇺🇸 Some states are changing or repealing their Certificate of Need laws and that has implications for how independent oncology practices consider expanding patient access to services along the cancer care continuum. 🙋♂️ Todd Stevens will moderate an informative discussion on CON reform and what practices should consider with Coastal Cancer Center's Emily Touloukian, DO and Tennessee Oncology's Dr. John Phillips at OneOncology's upcoming annual conference in Nashville. 📱 To learn about OneOncology's event series, reach out to the events team at events@oncology.com.

A new study presented by Dr. Johnetta Blakely at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Quality Care Symposium, highlights the rising administrative burden of payer's step therapy requirements. Dr. Blakely: "These additional requirements not only complicate patient care but also fuel burnout among physicians trying to navigate these ever-changing drug regimens." The study also found that from 2022 to 2023, there was a sixfold increase in the number of patients whose payer required a step edit, whether for a biosimilar or something else. Each switch costs over $75 per switch - a lot of money over time for a practice. The lead author of the study, Stacey Poole, Tennessee Oncology's head of Revenue Cycle Management, has an entire team partnering with the pharmacy team to help the practice keep up with changing payer step edit requirements. Dr. Blakely: "You talk about burnout just from the perspective of a physician. We’re being asked to see more patients in less time. We’re being asked to click so many boxes. And so, now you’re saying, “Okay, I have to start looking at patients and thinking about what their insurance is, because for this insurance, I use this product. For this insurance, I use a separate product.” It’s not just remembering the regimens, it’s remembering the step edits. Thankfully, Tennessee Oncology is a big enough group, especially with the help of OneOncology, to help navigate that. And we have a team. It requires not just a doctor, but it requires a drug authorization coordinator who puts the regimen in. The drug authorization coordinator is going to look and say, “Okay, you can’t use Herceptin, but you can use whatever the biosimilar’s name is.” Read the entire interview. ⤵ https://lnkd.in/eb8rzArs

This brought us tears of joy.
New York Cancer and Blood Specialists is more than just a workplace; it is the reason I am here today. NYCBS kept the Lorello name alive by curing my father when he was given only three days to live. By saving him, they gave me my life. On my wedding day, I danced with my father to "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim McGraw, a moment dedicated to New York Cancer and Blood Specialists. Because of NYCBS, my father had the chance to dance with his "angel baby." I got to cheer my father on in front of all my friends and family because of his strength and NYCBS's care. This place is more than just a workplace to me, and I will never stop sharing and honoring it. NYCBS makes miracles happen, and I can vouch for that.
