Recent research from the IEA PVPS - Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme highlights the rapid acceleration of module recycling patent filings. 💡 Key takeaways: ✅ The largest concentrations for patents are in China, Japan & South Korea. ✅ Pioneering technologies are rapidly being tested and deployed. ✅ Very high purity materials are required for reuse in the PV industry. ❗Researchers from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory recently unveiled proof-of-concept for a pioneering method to simplify module recycling. ⚡ Highlights: 🕐 Using femtosecond lasers, glass-to-glass welds create a strong, durable and reliable hermetic seal between two glass layers, sufficient to pass static load tests for field-based applications. 🕑 This technique, if employed, would enable efficient recycling of glass and metal components while allowing for the reuse of silicon. 🕒 David Young, a senior scientist at NREL, identifies one of the major pain points for recyclers of PV modules: polymers...👎 ♻ Want to learn more?
