💡⚡Calling Gen Z: Tips to Prepare for the Future of Work 💡⚡ Terrific article from the Forbes Coaches Council with 15 spot-on recos. #2: Emphasize the Need for Continual Upskilling!!! Keep reading for our top picks from the rest of the list. #3: Encourage Students to Stay Curious (curiosity = always learning) #6: Create Formal Mentorship Opportunities (stay tuned for future mentoring and coaching opptys on OneRange!) #13: Introduce "Feedforward" Labs in Schools (This was a new concept for us, but a really interesting reframe. Feedback is a critical part of continuous learning and development, but this turns the model on its head to be more proactive: "Unlike traditional feedback, feedforward focuses on actionable advice for future improvement before mistakes are made.") #14: Integrate Hybrid Learning Models (Flexibility, multi-modality -- great stuff that supports employee-driven learning!) #15: Cultivate a Strong T Profile (This combines the best of both worlds of a specialist and generalist. Encourage students to build deep subject matter expertise in one domain, while balancing broad knowledge across multiple other areas.) Read the article for the full list of 15 tips! https://lnkd.in/eaWN4EM7 #HR #upskilling #futureofwork #GenZ #continuouslearning #alwaysbelearning

📚💻 We're big proponents of employee-driven learning. And many leading companies like Pfizer are taking this approach. 📚💻 In an article featuring Pfizer's Learning Academy Lead for India, Anirudh Gupta describes their "learning pull" methodology, where each learner takes control of their own learning based on needs and interests, rather than being told what and how to learn. Metrics focus on key skills like managers' competence in navigating challenges and employees' ability to solve their own problems without escalation, rather than on activity outputs such as days of training. This leads to a culture of continuous improvement that encourages and enables Pfizer employees to get into a "learning flow" where they regularly engage in upskilling activities. Here are a few other tenants of the Pfizer approach: -- emphasis on digital learning, leveraging AI-powered tools -- localized learning that offers specific programs for different global regions -- leadership development focused on succession planning, inclusivity, and women's empowerment How have you seen employee-driven, vs. company-driven learning work in your organization? #upskilling #HR #FutureofWork #continuouslearning https://lnkd.in/epYKgAaS

➕➕DOD hosts competition to reward innovative upskilling schemes ➕➕ Continuing on our theme of data skills gaps from yesterday: DARPA, a division of the US Department of Defense focused on advancing cutting edge research, is taking steps to tackle data upskilling challenges. DARPA recently granted awards for solutions targeting cybersecurity, data, and AI skills among adults. According to the agency, they prioritized "solutions in the competition that leveraged generative AI or LLMs for teaching STEM subjects to adult populations through digital platforms, and AI tools to improve the user experience and outcomes. Winners were chosen by a wide variety of stakeholders who judged the programs on their potential impact, attention to equity, demand from adults, employers and communities and ability to support rapid experimentation and continuous improvement." Check out the winners: -- Haiku, Inc., agame-based training simulator for 5G -- CrystalSTEM program, an interactive AI tool that helps predict skill trends and analyze local needs -- Codesafe, an adaptive comp sci ed platform, using AI and LLMs It's reassuring to know that the govt. is taking upskilling for data, technology, and other STEM skills seriously. What else should they be doing, in your opinion? https://lnkd.in/e_Yv2Ssp #upskilling #HR #FutureofWork #AI #GenAI

➗ ➗ When the math isn't mathing ➗ ➗ According to a Multiverse report cited in HR Dive, businesses are losing nearly a month of productivity (25 days) per employee each year due to skills gaps around data. Workers are fumbling through spreadsheets and struggling with tasks such as data analysis, process automation and forecasting. Here's a few more stats (see what we did there?) to conceptualize the scale of the problem: - Workers spend an average of about 14 hrs / week on data tasks (36% of the work week), and 1/3 of that time is spent unproductively due to skills gaps - Only 39% of employers make data training available to all employees (Forrester & Tableau) - By 2025, 70% of employees will be expected to use data in their roles (Forrester & Tableau) This is no surprise to us, as data analysis is one of the most popular skill areas requested the OneRange platform, both among employers and employees. Check out Multiverse for the full report covering 12,000 workers across 18 industries. https://lnkd.in/eeuHwJFT https://lnkd.in/exNdG-SC #upskilling #HR #FutureofWork #dataskills #skillsgaps

🛍👜Best Buy, Adidas, and other major retailers are investing in expansive upskilling and continuous education. 🛍👜 Why? In part because employee turnover is a huge issue in the industry, and 31% of retailers cite staffing shortages as the primary factor impacting their ability to meet sales targets. In light of the research showing that employees are more likely to stay with an employer who invests in their professional development, retailers are changing course from investing narrowly in on-the-job training. They're putting resources toward upskilling and professional development geared to help employees navigate their careers tomorrow, rather than just perform their jobs effectively today. Will this signal a long-term shift in the industry? With retail being one of the largest sectors and employers in the economy, we can only hope so! https://lnkd.in/edSnZg8D #HR #Upskilling #FutureofWork adidas Best Buy

💡💡 The "gig" economy has moved internal...💡💡 We've all heard of "intrapreneurship." Is it time to pave the way for "gigtrapreneurship"? Hear us out: According to an article from HR Grapevine, giving employees gigs, or novel projects that require them to work cross-functionally, is a creative way to approach upskilling that can boost employee engagement, motivation, and, ultimately, retention. According to Chief Learning Officer of Workday Chris Ernst, gig participants are 42% more likely to move into a new role internally and demonstrate better employee retention after 12 months. So how should we think about this phenomenon and what should we call it? If "Intrapreneurship" refers to the practice of innovation-focused employees applying mindsets and approaches from start-up culture to lead new product development within companies, should this be coined "gigtrapreneurship" "intragigging" or "gigskilling"? Let us know you're ideas and we'll keep working on it 😅🤔 https://lnkd.in/gf9uhm2q #upskilling #FutureofWork #HR #professionaldevelopment

🥇 🥈 🥉 How do your employees compare to Olympians?? 🥇 🥈 🥉 As we’ve been watching the Paris Olympics the last couple weeks, we’ve been thinking about how intensely these world-class athletes train and track their progress. Most keep training journals, and many now use sophisticated technology to analyze every movement. This got us thinking: What if more companies measured their employee development the way coaches track their athletes?? Tracking progress enables you to document improvement, which helps fuel drive and motivation. There is perhaps nothing more motivating than seeing a target number improve over time, whether it’s your 5K time or your memo-writing time. Progress tracking also enables managers to better individualize skill development and provide more valuable, targeted feedback. Finally, it provides critical insights into your own performance as a leader and developer of people. Are you giving your team the tools and support they need to grow? In honor of the Olympics, check out these articles on sports progress tracking. Let us know how you think these lessons from the world of athletics could apply to your own upskilling efforts! https://lnkd.in/d8Z_SzJ https://lnkd.in/emuiRhTQ https://lnkd.in/eyBGPuvP #Paris2024 #Olympics2024 #upskilling #FutureofWork #careerdevelopment #professionaldevelopment

💡 Are you using skills matrices to support your upskilling strategy? 💡An article from the Association for Talent Development describes the importance of creating a skills matrix to identify and compare employees’ competencies and experiences and better target L&D programs. The article outlines 5 steps for creating matrices: 1. ID the required skills 2. Create a scoring system 3. Consider employees' career goals 4. Compile skills data in a table 5. Keep skill matrices up to date Many of the companies we work with use skills matrices to outline the skills required for various different roles and levels (e.g., marketing associate, manager, director, etc.). We’ve worked with some of these clients to develop unique learning pathways, or groups of learning resources, to target specific skills at every level. AI is hugely helpful in this work. By using skills data and learning content metadata, we can create automatic skill tagging for all our OneRange resources. This allows us to provide more targeted and individualized learning experiences by identifying employee’s unique skill needs and providing personalized upskilling recommendations. Once you’ve created them, there are plenty of options for tying skills matrices to upskilling programs. But we believe that OneRange’s open marketplace of content provides employees with the widest access to relevant resources from a host of upskilling providers. Are you using skill matrices? If so, have you used them to inform the design of your upskilling programs? https://lnkd.in/e3Feidz9 #skills #upskilling #HR #FutureofWork
