Project Profile Series!! Onex Construction recently completed the refractory installation on a New Walking Beam Reheat Furnace (182’x41’), including the Combustion Air and Waste Gas Duct, Recuperator, and Stack. The Walking Beam Furnace featured over 1 million pounds of Ram Plastic on the sidewalls and roof, with a casted hearth and skids. The Waste Gas Ductwork contained over 500,000 lbs of refractory gunnite, while the Combustion Air Duct was precisely lined with Insulation Fire Brick. The 10’9” Diameter Stack was fully lined (236’) with over 250,000 lbs of refractory gunnite, installed from a suspended swing stage scaffold. All installations were meticulously coordinated with surrounding trades to ensure both safety and production goals were achieved. #Construction #Refractory #Engineering #Safety #ProjectManagement #IndustrialConstruction #OnexConstruction

Happy Labor Day!! Project Profile Series! A great example of Onex Construction’s prefabrication abilities: Onex picked up a high-temperature reactor section from one of our customer’s locations and transported it to our facility. Here, we repaired the stainless-steel flange and installed refractory brick sourced from one of our valued material suppliers. The rebuild was coordinated with the customer’s SME to ensure everything met their specifications. The unit consists of a cast back-up lining with an intricate brick configuration requiring compound miter cuts and precise brick installation. After approval, the lining was fired out, multiple ports drilled out, and the unit was shipped back to the customer site for installation. This is just a small sample of the prefabrication services we offer with our highly skilled craftsmen. #Construction #Prefabrication #Refractory #Engineering #Manufacturing #SkilledCraftsmen #OnexConstruction #ProjectProfile #IndustrialServices

Project Profile Series: Proud to share our latest project where we successfully completed a comprehensive skid and hearth replacement. Here’s a quick overview of the process: 🔹 Forming and Pouring: We formed and poured the skids and posts onsite, but outside the furnace. 🔹 Shotcreting Joints: Once the skids and posts were installed, we shotcreted the joints to ensure a solid and durable structure. 🔹 Blue Ram Wash: We applied a blue ram wash around the skid rider metallics for added protection and longevity. 🔹 Precast Shapes and Hearth Installation: We installed precast shapes around the movable skid slots and shotcreted a 16" thick hearth in the Heat and Soak zone areas. 🔹 Project Timeline: The project was completed in 11,000 total man hours and we came in ahead of schedule by 12 days. A big thank you to our dedicated team for their hard work and expertise in making this project a success! #Construction #Refractory #TeamWork #ProjectSuccess

Project Profile Series continued! Project Highlights: 181’ x 41’ Walking Beam Reheat Furnace (2) Hot Dip Galvanizing Lines (4) Zinc Pots 4 Million Lbs of Refractory 500,000 sq-ft. of Ceramic Fiber 50,000 sq-ft of Stainless Steel Cladding Zero Accidents or Incidents On-Time Completion Project Overview: Our team performed the refractory installation on a new Walking Beam Reheat furnace, as well as a Hot Dip Galvanizing furnace and Zinc Pots. The walking beam furnace featured a rammed roof and walls with a cast hearth and skids. The waste gas system and 234’ stack sections were lined with gunnite. Despite adjacent furnaces being in operation, all activities were meticulously planned to ensure crew safety. The 75’ vertical galvanizing furnaces were insulated with 10 layers of ceramic fiber and protected by stainless steel cladding. Each Zinc Pot was constructed using a combination of brick and castable. This project required careful coordination to ensure the smooth flow of materials to work areas. We used over 4 million lbs. of refractory material, 500,000 square feet of ceramic fiber, and 50,000 square feet of stainless-steel cladding. A huge thank you to our dedicated team for their hard work and commitment to safety and excellence. Did you miss us? Well, we are back with a throwback from 2017. Project Profile Series continued: Key Highlights: NEW Austenitizing & Tempering Furnace (Tenova Design) NEW Quench and Temper Line Installation (Lazzari) NEW Cooling Beds, Sizer, and Straightener Over 300,000 Man Hours utilized Zero Recordable Injuries LEED requirements met Deadlines met for production Project Overview: Onex completed the entire mechanical and piping installation for this project. The Austenitizing and Tempering Furnace were fully fit and erected in the field. Despite limited prefabrication, Onex successfully erected both furnaces simultaneously, boosting production and reducing the overall schedule duration. Nearly all onboard piping and ductwork, including insulation, were field-verified and fit. Onex operated two shifts around the clock to ensure all ductwork and piping exceeded customer standards. All handling equipment, including the Sizer and Straightener, was set using the latest and most accurate robotic theodolite, Leica’s TORA 6000. Onex collaborated closely with the client to implement engineering changes in the field, avoiding delays and expediting commissioning and startup. A huge thank you to our dedicated team and partners for making this project a success! #Engineering #ProjectManagement #MechanicalInstallation #SafetyFirst #LEEDCertified #Teamwork #Innovation
