The almond industry saw its second-highest December shipments on record at 229 million pounds, an 11% increase from last year, driven primarily by exports. Shipments to India and China/Hong Kong/Vietnam showed significant growth, with India's shipments up 16% and Vietnam's up an impressive 120%. Despite challenges in the Middle East, shipments were positive, and the domestic market also showed improvement. Overall, with total commitments at 637 million pounds, the industry anticipates a smaller crop and aims to reduce carryout to below 600 million pounds, keeping a close eye on the upcoming almond bloom in February for the 2024 crop's prospects.
