Georgia State University Law student Liz Harding founded Southern Legal Center for Youth (SCLY), the first legal aid organization providing free legal support for young people experiencing homelessness. They also recently received a $35,000 grant from the Georgia Bar Foundation to launch a Youth Homelessness Program, which is already helping young people navigate issues from housing to identity theft. We’re inspired by the recent efforts of Atlanta Public Schools, as they provide new shoes to homeless students! This simple act can make a profound difference in their lives. Currently, there are approximately 1,900 students in the Atlanta Public School system experiencing homelessness, many of whom are "doubling up" with friends or family due to financial strain. What is as VASH Voucher? It’s a rental assistance voucher provided to eligible homeless veterans through the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program. To qualify for these vouchers, a veteran's income cannot exceed 50% of the area median income.
