Overdose rates among Indigenous youth in Montana are a significant concern, reflecting broader national trends. The Rocky Boy Health Center (RBHC) on the Rocky Boy Reservation in north-central Montana is making efforts to combat this crisis in their community. ORN recently partnered with RBHC to deliver a training on substance use disorders (SUD) and the impact of SUDs on Indigenous communities alongside conversation on healthy relationships, safer-sex and sex trafficking during a two-day youth conference. To showcase the initiatives that States have implemented with 2023 State Opioid Response (SOR) grant funding, NASADAD has developed updated briefs for each State and territory highlighting their efforts to expand and enhance services across the substance use disorder (SUD) continuum of care. These briefs were developed using information shared by each State about their initiatives to prevent opioid and stimulant misuse before it starts, expand access to opioid overdose reversal agents, implement harm reduction strategies, increase access to treatment, support long-term recovery, and reach and serve populations of focus. The briefs were developed with funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) SOR/Tribal Opioid Response (TOR) Technical Assistance grant through the Opioid Response Network (ORN). Each State’s SOR brief is now available on the interactive map on NASADAD’s public website, which can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/emvjB4yi.

📄 New Report: “Medications for Opioid Use Disorder in Pregnancy: Connection to Care in a Vulnerable Population” Opioid use disorder (OUD) continues to affect an increasing number of pregnant people in the United States. Associated morbidity is significant and includes both fetal and maternal risks such as neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS), fetal growth restriction, preterm labor, infection, poor prenatal care, and partner violence. Medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), such as buprenorphine and methadone, can be used to mitigate these risks and improve outcomes related to pregnancy. This report, from the American College of Medical Toxicology and developed in partnership with ORN, summarizes pregnant individuals receiving MOUD treatment that were seen by medical toxicology physicians around the United States and reported to the ToxIC Core Registry.
