Building an Agentic AI solution for enterprise automation is hard to do. My journey with multimodal LLMs controlling GUIs began 6+ months ago. Soon I realized that building an Agentic AI solution for enterprise automation from the ground up involves far more than just the usual AI stuff (VLMs, action models, visual grounding, fine-tuning, RAG, prompt optimization, CoT, evals, etc...). Running "computer use" on your laptop while watching workflow execution is one thing, but deploying AI agents at scale operating autonomously on devices/VMs in enterprise landscapes is a completely different challenge. In enterprise environments the agents need to operate across legacy systems, custom APIs, and in-house applications, while ensuring robust security, identity management, and data privacy controls. I'm sharing some of the (non-AI related) technical challenges we have faced in building an agentic AI platform at Opnova: ➡️ Orchestrate real-time communication between agents and backend components ➡️ Manage (short- and long-term) memory and maintain state across agent fleets ➡️ Support interactive human oversight ➡️ Provide complete observability ➡️ Scale with enterprise workloads ➡️ Enable secure bi-directional communication through firewalls That's where the real systems engineering challenges begin(!) and I'm lucky enough to have a brilliant architect as co-founder from whom I've been learning a lot.
