  • A great opportunity to network and yarn with team members from the #Orange Aboriginal Medical Service about the services they are delivering in our local community.

Wala Ma Nha Yali Nya Early Years Children & Families, Yiriyirimbang Out of Home Care and Miyan Wambinya - NDIS & Healthy Aging welcomed the team from Orange and District Early Education Program (ODEEP) to our Peisley Street site last week for a yarn about our services and delivery opportunities. ODEEP is an NDIS registered early childhood intervention service providing supports for children aged 0-12 years with disabilities and developmental delays. ODEEP’s specialised team of early childhood educators and allied health practitioners partner with families and communities to achieve the best outcomes for children with a disability or developmental delay through a range of individual or group education and therapy services covering Orange and the surrounding districts.

  • ODEEP manages and operates a small mainstream community based preschool - Pinnacle Preschool. We value a model that is based on the very best of education and care for our children, an excellent relationship with the families and community and an environment that respects and includes all children. We also value our amazing staff who make all this happen and we run at an above ratio of staff to children and are committed to 25% of our enrolments are available for children who have a disability or delay in development. Our preschool is in its fourth year of operation and has been recognised for our inclusive practices in the Central West Education Awards.

  • “Keep the Fire Burning Blak, Loud and Proud” is the theme for NAIDOC Week, 7th - 14th July 2024. This years theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture, with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. ODEEP honours this flame and will continue our commitment to acknowledging, preserving and sharing the cultural heritage that enriches our nation and the continuation of our work in partnership with First Nations children, families and communities where voices, stories and traditions are heard and respected.

  • ODEEP is proud to be a part of the Early Childhood Intervention Best Practice Network and our CEO is a Co-Chair of the network. The below paper shares views regarding the design of Foundational Supports for children and families. The network undertakes advocacy work for the sector, with particular focus on early childhood intervention best practice principles.

Our Network members are pleased to provide a white paper which outlines our views regarding the design of the new foundational support and disability ecosystem for children and families. As experienced community-based not-for-profit child and family organisations, we believe that we have much to contribute to the upcoming discussions on co-designing this system for children and families. Our intention with the white paper it to present ideas to support design-thinking and co-design collaboration. Our paper summarises: - The principles fundamental to a new supports ecosystem including examples of past and present practices that exemplify these principles. - The potential to integrate foundational supports into the existing service ecosystem. - The role of Navigators and Lead Practitioners (Key Workers). - How community-based not-for-profit child and family organisations play a crucial role in the broader child and family sector as accessible, localised points of support bridging universal and targeted services. We also address the ways in which conflicts of interest can be managed within these frameworks. We look forward to engaging with government, our sector colleagues and other key stakeholders in the co-design process around foundational supports.

  • This week Hon, Kate Washington MP, Minister for Families and Communities, and Minister for Disability Inclusion visited ODEEP and Pinnacle Preschool. Joining her during the visit was Phil Donato MP. The visit provided us with an opportunity to talk about the breadth of supports that ODEEP offers children and families in the Orange, Blayney and Cabonne local government areas, including early childhood intervention, education and therapy, supported playgroups, parent and family support groups, community based preschool and professional development opportunities. During the visit we also discussed the recent NDIS review recommendation to invest in foundational supports to bring fairness, balance and sustainability to the ecosystem supporting people with disability. We talked about what constitutes “Foundational supports” and what these may look like for children and families in the early years and the importance of getting these right to ensure that the right supports are available when they are needed, particularly for regional and rural areas. It was also great to be able to inform Minister Washington about the collaborative work currently being undertaken by the sector to advocate for and assist in the design of foundational supports - CaFSA NSW and Early Childhood Intervention Best Practice Network.

  • Three ODEEP staff attended the Western NSW Business Awards last Friday night where we were a finalist in the Employer of Choice category and our CEO Kylie Streatfeild, was a finalist in the Outstanding Business Leader - 21 employees and over category. Unfortunately we didn’t continue our winning streak from the Orange business awards in the Employer of Choice awards, but continue to ensure we implement exceptional recruitment, retention and rewards strategies for new and existing employees. Want to know more, feel free to give us a call. The good news though, Kylie did win the Outstanding Business Leader category, congratulations Kylie on this success, we are very proud of you!

Seventeen leaders from NSW community-based and not-for-profit sectors, including national parenting support services, came together as an alliance yesterday to discuss child and family Foundational Supports as recommended by the NDIS Review. Collectively, our trusted and established organisations work with over 175,000 children and families, including children with disabilities—many of us have a broader reach through consultancy and support work. The event’s purpose was to determine priority areas to enable the achievement of Foundational Support objectives for these families. The roundtable marks the first stage of a broader engagement strategy that informs Foundational Supports for young children. It will draw on the expertise of community-based early childhood intervention organisations, peer/family support and advocacy groups, parenting support organisations, researchers, early childhood and mainstream providers, and information and resource networks attending today. We will soon release a position paper on Foundational Supports. Thanks to Kindred and Playgroup NSW for organising the event. #Ndis #NdisReview #FoundationalSupport Morgan A.
