Strengthening the community through quality services to children and families.
About us
Orchards Children’s Services is one of the largest child welfare agencies in the state of Michigan, founded in 1962 by the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) Greater Detroit Section. Orchards started as a small residential group home for 7 boys with emotional impairments. Today, Orchards Children’s Services serves over 8,000 children throughout 15 counties in the state of Michigan. We are dedicated to fulfilling our mission of strengthening the community through quality services to children and families. We believe in engaging individuals in planning for their own future, and with the support of our programs many of our families are successful. By working in partnership with parents, relatives, foster parents and youth in their households and communities, we empower families to achieve stability and long-term self-sufficiency. Orchards Children's Services is accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA).

Sending out a HUGE thank you to Ford Philanthropy and volunteers from the Ford Motor Company for helping us refresh the well-used and well-loved Family Visitation Area in our Southfield headquarters! Thank you for all of your support and hard work! At Orchards Children’s Services, we believe that the reunification of families in a safe and stable family environment whenever possible provides the most positive outcome for a child’s well-being. Our Family Visitation Area plays an essential role in the healing and development of children in foster care: it is a space where families can reconnect and create meaningful moments together, while allowing case workers to oversee interactions and help determine if family reunification is in the child’s best interest.
