The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) 🚉 is the public transportation agency operating rail and bus service in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Order created a digital signage system to support the existing wayfinding throughout the WMATA network, providing tools to communicate arrival times, real-time service updates, up-to-date transfers, and more. American Landscapes, organized by the New-York Historical Society, 🖼️ explores the work and legacy of the Hudson River School, a group of painters who formed what is considered to be one of the first American art movements. The exhibition has been adapted for viewing at Munson until September 22. Exhibition designs feature the historically inspired Consort Condensed and Munson Grotesque, crafted by Emily Atwood at Order in 2023. Full case study: https://lnkd.in/euP9VN3e

'Slave Play. Not a Movie. A Play.' 🎬 is a documentary on the creation and impact of 'Slave Play' by Jeremy O. Harris, written during his first year as a graduate student at Yale. Order collaborated with O. Harris to develop a simple typographic language for the film's titles. In the playful and provocative documentary, now streaming on HBO, viewers are taken behind the scenes, as Jeremy directs new actors in workshop rehearsals and shares his insights, inspirations, and creative process that brought the play to life. Our team that worked on Herman Miller's identity project (Garrett Corcoran, Megan Nardini, and Jesse Reed) was recently interviewed for the reboot of 'Ideas' magazine. While we continue to work on the full case study, here's a taste of the process!
Earlier this year, we updated our brand identity for the first time in 25 years. We tapped Order., a Brooklyn-based design studio, to help us with the refresh, which includes a complete set of brand standards. You’ll notice a rich new color palette, wordmark set in Söhne (courtesy of Klim Type Foundry), and starring role for our M logo, which was originally designed by Irving Harper in 1946. As part of NYCxDESIGN, we’re proud to introduce Ideas magazine, 88 pages that demonstrate how we put ideas into practice at Herman Miller. You’ll find everything from interviews with people in our design orbit and articles about how our classic designs are made to a feature about our test lab, where technicians delight in dreaming up worst-case scenarios and then creating tests to make sure our products measure up. Artist Kelli Anderson’s inventive cover design invites readers to cut up the cover and then “step into” the world of Herman Miller. The magazine’s title is a callback to the thought leadership publication we produced beginning in 1976. During NYCxDESIGN, see archival copies of the original Ideas issues—and pick up your own copy of the new one at our store during our Picnic on Park, 251 Park Avenue South in NYC, 12 - 2, May 21, 22, and 23.
