Oregon Agricultural Trust partners with farmers and ranchers to protect and pass on their land to future generations.

About us

OAT is an agricultural land trust that works collaboratively around the state to safeguard Oregon’s farm and ranch lands and the rural communities that depend upon them. We permanently protect agricultural land, help it stay in production, educate our community, and help advocate for farmland preservation. OAT preserves ag land mainly through donation and purchase of working land easements — voluntary agreements between a land trust and a landowner to remove development rights that interfere with farming and ranching. We also educate farmers, ranchers, attorneys, and the public about why and how to preserve farmland and plan for succession. We work with our peers to increase ag land preservation statewide. And we collaborate on advocacy.

  • Cheers to the Land 2024 is coming right up! We had the great opportunity to visit one of our collaborators this year, de Garde Brewing, to learn more about their unique brewing process, sample some of the beers, and participate in a blending session to create their Cheers to the Land brew! It was a fascinating and fun visit. Stay tuned for more stories, news and events: Cheers to the Land 2024 launches in less than a month!

  • We had the opportunity to participate in a ranch tour at Creswell Oaks, where we heard from ranchers Darrick and Molly Salyers about how they've used programs similar to the Oregon Agricultural Heritage Program (OAHP) to bolster agriculture and conservation, facilitate succession, sequester carbon, and run a financially viable operation. Founded in 2017, OAHP is a set of four grant programs that provide mutual benefits for agriculture, water quality and quantity, and habitat. Learn more here: https://buff.ly/4e366JH Big thank you to the Salyer Family, Coalition of Oregon Land Trusts , Oregon Climate and Agriculture Network, and everyone who attended the tour!
