We are so proud of our friends over at Blue Chalk Media who have been selected to screen their amazing documentary, Firebreak, at the Bend Film Festival! Firebreak tells the powerful story of Brandon Smith and Royal Ramey, two men who met while fighting wildfires in California’s penal system. Against all odds, they now train others like them to become professional firefighters. This documentary not only showcases their resilience but also highlights the importance of reentry support. 🔥 While Firebreak’s screening at the Tin Pan Theater on October 12th is already sold out (keep an eye out for any cancellations), you can still snag tickets for their screening at the Regal Old Mill on October 10th for just $15. Don’t miss out—grab your tickets here: https://lnkd.in/g22R6XXa And for all those cinephiles with extra time on Oct 10-13, don't miss out on Bend Film Festival's incredible lineup. Their curated selection is always top-notch, so be sure to check it out! 🎬✨

This is a reminder to get registered and vote! A lot of attention is being paid to the national election, but it is in our local elections where we have the most power to change the material conditions of the communities we currently inhabit! Figure out your district and get registered here: https://lnkd.in/gbnxr8rd Deadline to register is Oct. 15! ---------------------------------------- 📃 Voting with an RCV Ballot 📝 Ranked choice voting uses a grid-style ballot that allows voters to rank candidates in order of preference instead of choosing only one. 💡How to fill out your ballot 🔑 Whether you are voting in contest for a single winner (such as Mayor of Portland) or multiple winners (such as for Portland City Councilors), the ballot layout and steps to vote will look the same: - Fill one oval in the Rank 1 column for the candidate you like the most. - If you have a candidate that you like second best, fill in one oval in the Rank 2 column for that candidate. - You are allowed to rank up to six candidates, but you can vote for only one candidate if you prefer. Ranking other candidates does not harm your Rank 1 choice. - To write in a candidate, write the candidate’s name on the line provided and fill in the oval for the rank of your choice. Learn more about RCV at our linktree above!

Big shout out to our friends at SAG-AFTRA! They've been right there with us, boosting not only our local talent in Oregon but also our entire film industry. Thanks to SAG-AFTRA's unwavering support, Oregon's film scene has reached new heights. Their commitment to fostering both our local stars and the wider film industry in Oregon is not just commendable - it's crucial to our industry's success. From a SAG-AFTRA Spokesperson: "SAG-AFTRA is happy to work with and sponsor the OMPA. Our members are the faces and the voices that entertain and inform America and the world. We seek the strongest protections for media artists throughout the world, and that includes Oregon. As an advocate for the film industry in Oregon, the OMPA is an important partner in bringing quality union film and TV jobs to this state. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the OMPA in the years to come."

We are thrilled to have our new Interim Executive Director on board, bringing a wealth of experience and passion with her to our organization. As she gets started, here are a couple of guiding principles that motivated her to join us in our mission. “I’m looking forward to advancing OMPA’s core endeavors to… Provide ways for us to connect and rebuild our sense of community as we re-emerge from the long recovery after our recent strikes, Further our advocacy in Salem to empower more production in our state and make it easier for more out-of-state productions to bring work here, And continue to grow our industry by welcoming communities with lesser access, while also providing learning opportunities to strengthen our already talented workforce.” - Shilpa Sunthankar #MediaLeadership #OMPA #NewLeadership #InterimExecutiveDirector #LeadershipTransition
