The trade association’s connection to and commitment to improving access and education for organic transition is directly connected to USDA’s Organic Transition Initiative through the launch of the Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP). As a part of its multi-agency investment in organic, the USDA announced six organizations around the United States as Regional Centers for TOPP. Within the next year, two additional National TOPP projects were announced, including OTA’s National TOPP project and the Organic Farmers Association’s National TOPP project. All eight TOPP projects collaborate with each other to support the growth of the sector through education and networking. 🌾 The OTA community is playing an active role in these transformative activities, with five of the six Regional Centers being OTA members, and dozens more acting as partners within each of the six Regions. 🌱 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eM--Ukp2

About us
The Organic Trade Association (OTA) is the membership-based business association for the organic industry in North America. Focusing exclusively on organic agriculture and products, OTA stays on top of the issues that affect organic trade and takes action as necessary on behalf of its members, connecting them to market trends and industry news, regulatory and legislative advocacy, and consumer education, marketing and public relations resources. OTA's mission is to promote and protect ORGANIC with a unifying voice that serves and engages its diverse members from farm to marketplace. Our mission sets the stage for work on behalf of the diverse organic business community we serve. OTA represents businesses across the organic supply chain and addresses all things organic: food, fiber and textiles, personal care and pet products, and new sectors as they develop. Since its inception in 1985, OTA has been a key player in shaping both the regulatory and market environment for organic products. OTA works to develop markets for organic products, protect the integrity of organic standards, and foster consumer confidence in the organic label. A win for small organic producers worldwide! Earlier this week, the United States District Court for the District of Oregon ruled against a pending legal challenge to organic “grower group” certification following a brief filed earlier this year by the Center for Food Safety along with the Organic Trade Association (OTA) and other organic stakeholders, including organic nonprofits, companies, certifiers and grocers, in support of USDA’s grower group certification. “The court took an important step to protect organic market access for some of the world’s smallest farmers,” said Tom Chapman, Co-CEO of the Organic Trade Association. “To grow organic and address pressing global challenges, organic certification must remain viable for farms of all sizes.”

At Organic Valley, we’re all about supporting our family farms and the communities they serve. We’re excited to join the Organic Trade Association in welcoming the USDA’s continued support through the Organic Dairy Market Assistance Program (ODMAP). With $58 million in new assistance, this will be a difference maker for many organic dairy farmers—especially small family farms—facing variable weather and elevated production costs. As our board chair and proud New York dairy farmer, David Hardy, put it: “These resources will make a difference for hundreds of organic dairy farmers in rural communities across the U.S. There have been a lot of organic dairy farmers who have faced horrific drought and weather conditions this past year, and USDA is right to offer this relief to help offset some of those losses. I know a lot of family farms in our cooperative that are going to use these funds to buy organic feed and pay off outstanding bills. It can’t come soon enough.” We’re grateful that the USDA responded. Together, we can keep our farms and values growing strong.
