As the number of labor and delivery (L&D) unit closures continues, a growing number of women across the U.S. are potentially losing access to maternity care or having to travel farther to be seen by an OB/GYN. These closures widen gaps in care particularly for women in rural and minority communities. We’ll continue to work to expand access to reproductive and maternal care, by advocating for increased funding and supporting innovative programs like mobile L&D units. Every two seconds, someone around the globe has a stroke. One in four people will have a stroke at some point in their lives. It’s important to understand the risk factors for stroke and how certain lifestyle changes may help lower them, including managing blood pressure, controlling blood sugar, prioritizing exercise and focusing on balanced eating. While more research is still needed due to historical underrepresentation of women in clinical trials, studies have shown that there are times in a woman’s life when she is at an increased risk of stroke – during pregnancy, menopause, and post-menopausal.
