Hey there! In this week's deep dive into Pressing RESET, we focus on head control—a key part of movement, balance, posture, and overall body control. But there’s more to head movement than you might think. At the heart of it all is the vestibular system, the part of your nervous system that plays a critical role in balance, coordination, and how your body moves through space. It’s located in your inner ear and helps your brain process where your body is at any moment. Without a properly functioning vestibular system, movement becomes inefficient, balance becomes shaky, and even coordination is compromised. Why Head Control Is So Important Head control is foundational for everything from basic movement to high-level athletic performance. When you move your head, you activate the vestibular system, which tells your body where it is in space and how it should respond. Whether it’s stabilizing yourself when walking, maintaining balance when doing a challenging movement, or coordinating your limbs for athletic performance, it all starts with your head. (*On that note, A LOT starts with our head, right?*) When you Press RESET through movements that emphasize head control, you are directly engaging and strengthening the vestibular system. Practical Ways to Strengthen Head Control Some simple resets we use to train head control include: Gentle Head Nods: Slow and controlled movements of the head up and down, which stimulate the vestibular system. Head Rotations: Moving the head side to side while keeping the rest of the body still, further engaging balance and coordination. Eye Movement and Head Movement Combo: Moving the head while focusing the eyes in a different direction enhances coordination and reflexive strength. These simple yet powerful movements help reset the nervous system, improving how your clients move and feel.
