In early October, ORPC Ireland and Queen's University Belfast deployed a next generation marine energy turbine at the university’s tidal test site in Northern Ireland. This exciting milestone marks ORPC’s first ocean deployment in Europe. During the testing at Strangford Lough, ORPC engineers will collect data on the turbine performance in a real tidal environment. This follows laboratory testing earlier this year at Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche’s tow tank in Rome, Italy, as part of the Horizon Europe-funded #CRIMSON project. The deployment is part of the X-Flow project, led by Queen’s, which includes APPLIED RENEWABLES RESEARCH LIMITED and Shell Technology – Marine Renewable Program and is supported by the Green Innovation Challenge Fund led by Centre for Advanced Sustainable Energy (CASE). It builds on ORPC’s 17 successful demonstrations in the United States and Canada and lays the foundation for the expansion of our tidal and river energy devices around the world. #20yearsofORPC #oceanenergy https://lnkd.in/d-mSQPue

Proven renewable underwater power systems generating predictable, clean energy from free-flowing rivers & tides
About us
Combating climate change with proven and reliable underwater power systems that generate clean energy from free-flowing tides and rivers, ORPC improves people’s lives and their environment through sustainable energy solutions. A global leader in marine renewable energy (MRE) technology and project solutions, we are initially focused on solving the problem of high cost, environmentally-risky diesel power generation in remote islanded communities by harnessing the power of ocean and river currents to create clean predictable locally produced renewable energy. Worldwide we are the only company to have built, operated and delivered power to a utility grid from an MRE tidal project, and to a local microgrid from an MRE river project. ORPC is committed to working with local partners and creating local economic opportunities. In 2019, ORPC launched its commercial RivGen® Power System in Igiugig, Alaska, supplying energy to the remote community and setting record as the longest operating current energy converter device in the Americas. ORPC has installed a second RivGen device in Igiugig, along with smart grid technology and energy storage, with the goal of decreasing the community’s diesel fuel use by 60-90%. ORPC has developed a globally respected knowledge database of fisheries and marine life interaction with our power systems, and in over a decade, no known adverse impacts have been observed in either river or ocean environments. Our projects are carried out in full collaboration with local communities, universities, environmental agencies, fishing industry groups and other stakeholders. ORPC is pursuing strategic and financial partnerships that will allow us to expand our operations in North America, South America and Europe, and supply our commercial power systems and expertise worldwide where ocean and river energy resources exist.

ORPC's Sean Anderton and Lucile Moret, M.Sc.A, .ing PRT were lucky enough to find themselves in Canada’s Yukon territory during the cosmic light show that lit up the globe a couple weeks ago. After a full day on the water performing transect and bathymetry measurements, part of a project in partnership with Northern Energy Capital, our operations team members took in the aurora from the banks of the #Yukon River. Fieldwork has its perks! #marineenergy #energyindependence

ORPC is proud to be one of 38 member businesses that call TechPlace in Brunswick, Maine, home. The innovation hub houses our Engineering & Electronics Lab, where components of ORPC's river and #tidalenergy systems are put to the test to support in-water installations in Maine, Alaska, Canada, Northern Ireland and beyond. Thanks to Jaimie Logan, JD, IOM and the TechPlace community for providing such a welcome incubator. Read more at Mainebiz: https://lnkd.in/dpF35z9K

Last week, ORPC Canada was in Montreal for ēnergiQ. Through Alexandre Paris's panel participation and conversations at our exhibition stand, we had the opportunity to engage with clients, suppliers and Canadian institutions about ORPC's river and tidal energy solutions. Our team was excited to see hydroturbines gaining recognition as a #renewableenergy solution on par with other established technologies. There was a strong focus on placing human considerations at the center of the energy transition, aligning with a core value of ORPC's work in remote communities. The #cleanenergy future in Canada looks bright, and we're excited to be a part of it!
